Chapter 2
On the way to the hospital, Pardes Miller reminded
“Don’t call the police. They’ve taken photos, and if this blows sp, I’ll only make things worse for Loopy”
What photos?!” I grabbed hold of his collar,
“It’s nothing–nothing at all. I’ve already deleted them, but please, don’t call the police
After the doctor examined the vemmils, Hearned that not only had the allies pricked Loopy with a needle, but they had also carved words into her hack with a compass. Because the wounds had scabbed over. I hadn’t noticed right away.
as only when Pardes Miller shoved her that the scales tore open, causing her to bleed heavily.
Watching Loopy lying on the hospital bed, quietly crying, I became unce and more furious.
1 took out my phone and sent a message to Loopy’s homeroom teacher, Mr. Spencer.
“Mr. Spencer, Loopy has been heaten up like this by Jack. What is the school planning to do about it?
Mr. Spencer replied quickly, but his tone was dripping with arrogance.
“Do about it? Loopy and Jack had a fight, and both families agreed not to pursue it. What more is there to handle?”
I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
“How can this be a mutual fight? Jack only got a small scratch when Loopy fought back. His injuries are nothing compared to what Loopy has suffered! And I never said I wouldn’t pursue this! I won’t just let this go
“Loopy’s mom, let me explain something to you. Do you know why I contacted your husband instead of you, the mother, when they fought? It’s because of your unreasonable attitude! Your husband said he wasn’t going to make a big deal of it, so isn’t that the same as letting it go? Why are you making such a fuss? Do you think I’m just sitting here with nothing to do?”
“Have you never heard the saying, “Enduring hardship is a blessing? Loopy’s injuries are full of blessings, and now you’re trying to break all that up? Maybe you should learn from your husband and handle things with more grace!”
I was trembling with rage when I looked up and saw the hospital’s big screen showing the local news
The headline read: “Daughter Victimized by School Hullying: Father Generously Forgives the Bully, Both Parties Shake Hands in Reconciliation.”
And standing there being interviewed was none other than my husband, Pardes Miller.
“Mr. Miller, we hear your daughter was hospitalized after being beaten by a classmate. From the photos that were leaked online, it’s clear she was badly hurt. Why did you so generously forgive the bully?”
Pardes Miller had obviously dressed up for the occasion and looked vibrant and well–groomed.
“The pain is in my daughter’s body, and as her father, it pains me too. But I’ve also comforted myself and my daughter–roughhousing between classmates is normal. It’s important to forgive and let go.”
“If we hold on to every little thing, we’re not being magnanimous. Besides, Jack has already promised me he’ll delete the photos of my daughter, so we’re considering this matter closed.”
Pardes Miller appeared to be very friendly in front of the camera. The shot then shifted to Jack, the student who had bullied Loopy.
“Jack, do you have anything to say?”
Jack was a large and imposing boy, with his eyes squinting into narrow slits due to the bulk of his face.
He bąd a small scratch on his arm, probably from Loopy’s intense resistance, but it was barely noticeable unless you looked closely.
In comparison, I felt even more heartbroken for Loopy.
