Linda gave a shy smile. “Actually, it’s mostly
ily your fault, sister. If you had been kinder to James, he wouldn’t have wanted a divorce.”
She sighed, as if lamenting the situation. “He’s so pitiful. James loves to drink, but you won’t let him. Every time, he sneaks over to drink with me. After a few times, my feelings for him shifted from sympathy to love.”
She shrugged nonchalantly. “Tven if you can’t stand the idea of wasting money, you shouldn’t make your husband suffer like that.”
“So, sister, there’s no saving James anymore. But I hope you’ll learn from this. A man shouldn’t be controlled like that. It’s hound to cause problems. Let this be a lesson for you, and try to be more cautions in the future.”
age the divorce papers had already been signed, I didn’t need to pretend anymore. I casually sat down on the couch and ate a few cherries before speaking up. “I didn’t stop James from drinking because of money. His liver is in bad shape.. The doctor said he could develop liver cancer if he keeps drinking.”
I added two words quickly to cover myself “could develop,” nearly tripping over my own tongue.
it’s fine. Now that you have three billion, and true love, money and love should be able to cure any disease, right? So go ahead, keep drinking–liver cancer is nothing to worry about.”
James was even angrier after hearing my explanation. “What do you know? Alcohol is made from grain, the more you drink, the younger you get! You’re just too cheap to let me drink, that’s why you control me like this.”
Linda chimed in, “It’s just a little drink to lift the spirits. James isn’t an alcoholic. Even if he’s divorcing you, you shouldn’t curse him like that.”
I was even thinking of having James give you a little money after winning the lottery, but now that you’re cursing him, I won’t mention it again.”
1 waved my hand dismissively. “It’s fine. He doesn’t need to give me anything if he wins, I don’t want his money, and if I win, I won’t give him any either. Fair and square.”
