I arranged for Rainie to transfer schools and put the house I received from Davon on the market. I was preparing to take her to a city I liked, one with better schools.
When I first married, I had come here, but it had never been my ideal place.
Now that I had the means and the opportunity, I wanted to move somewhere that suited
me better.
Most importantly, I didn’t want Rainie to be caught up in the drama of Davon’s family.
However, despite my quick preparations, surprises were inevitable.
A few days later, a woman, her small belly slightly showing, came to our door.
“Who’s this?”
When she arrived, it was Rainie who answered the door, and I immediately came out to see
her.
“Sweetheart, go inside,” I said to Rainie.
The woman arrogantly smirked, “Avni Taylor, you don’t know who I am, but I sure know
who you are.”
“I’m carrying your ex–husband’s baby. Oh, wait–he’s your ex now, isn’t he? This is Davon’s precious son. Much more valuable than your little girl.”
“Davon has cancer,” I said calmly.
The woman froze for a moment before bursting into laughter.
“Hahahahahaha!”
“Hahahaha, you idiot!”
“Davon’s cancer is a lie. He’s been pretending to be sick to get you to divorce him so that I could marry him. He’s quite the catch, a potential goldmine. And you two fell for

it–laughable, really.”
“Oh, and here’s an explosive bit of news.”
“This little scam isn’t just between me and Davon. Your in–laws, your sister–in–law, they’re all in on it. We’ve been fooling you and that stupid daughter of yours. Surprised? Shocked?”
“Are you done?”
texpectedly, I didn’t react much at all.
“Done? Then leave.”
I slammed the door shut in her face, leaving her outside, seething with anger.
Surprised? Shocked? Wait until they find out that Davon’s cancer is real. Now that will be
the real shock.
I slowed my pace as I packed up my things. Rainie still didn’t know what had happened and asked curiously, “Mom, aren’t we moving?”
I patted her head, “We’ll move soon, sweetheart. But for now, Mommy’s going to watch a
little drama.”
And to my surprise, the drama came much sooner than I expected.
