Without another word, Branwen stood up and leaned down, effortlessly scooping me up into his arms as if I weighed nothing at all.
His strength was reassuring, and the firm yet gentle way he held me made me feel safe.
“You’re not fine,” he said in a calm, matter–of–fact tone, his voice steady and filled with quiet determination. “Let’s get you home so you can rest.”
I opened my mouth, wanting to argue and tell him I could walk on my own, but the words caught in my throat. Deep down, I knew he was right.
My body felt weak, and the ache in my chest hadn’t gone away.
Instead of protesting, I let out a small sigh and leaned into him, letting him take the lead.
As he carried me, I instinctively wrapped my arms around his neck, holding on tightly.
His warmth seeped into me, chasing away the cold dread that had settled deep in my chest.
The rhythmic sound of his footsteps and the steady rise and fall of his breathing calmed me, making me feel oddly at peace despite the discomfort in my body.
For the first time in a long while, I felt cared for, and though I didn’t say it aloud, I was grateful for his presence.
Just as we were leaving the restaurant, a sudden flash of light made me blink.

“Well, well,” she sneered, lowering her phone slightly. “Isn’t this cozy? Branwen and Lorelei, far too close for just siblings. Do you think Silas would like to see these pictures?”
I stiffened in Branwen’s arms, but he didn’t even flinch.
His expression remained calm, though I could feel the tension in his body.
“Lena, you don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
“Oh, don’t I?” Lena snapped, her voice dripping with sarcasm as her lips curled into a sly smirk.
Her eyes glinted with malice, clearly enjoying the moment.
“You’re supposed to be Silas’s Luna, aren’t you? His devoted mate? And yet here you are, acting like Branwen is the one you’re bonded to.”
crossed her arms and tilted her head, her tone turning even sharper. “Look at you, clinging to him like he’s your mate. It’s disgusting.
Do you even know how this looks to everyone else? To Silas?”
Her words were filled with venom, each one calculated to wound.
Lena’s gaze moved from me to Branwen and back again, as if she were sizing us up, waiting for some kind of reaction.
It was clear she wanted to cause trouble, to create a rift where there was none.
I shrank back into Branwen’s arms, unwilling to give her the satisfaction of seeing me upset.
Branwen’s light–colored eyes darkened, and his voice dropped to a dangerously low tone.
“Lena,” he said, his Alpha authority radiating from every word, “leave. Now.”
Lena hesitated, clearly unnerved by his tone, but she wasn’t ready to back down.
“I’m not going anywhere,” she said, though her voice wavered slightly. “The world needs to know what kind of woman their Luna is.”
