Back at the palace, I found Branwen waiting for me. He had been keeping watch over Lena, ensuring she remained locked away.
“She can’t be trusted,” Branwen said when I told him about the situation.
“I know,” I replied. “But this isn’t about her. It’s about Billy. He’s just a child.”
Branwen sighed but nodded. “We’ll let her out, but only temporarily.
The moment Billy is discharged, she goes back into the cell.”

I paused, looking at her tear–streaked face, hoping she would believe me. “If anything,” I continued, “Billy has been the one who’s been unkind.
He’s been cruel–not just to me, but to my daughter too. He has bullied us, over and over again.

believe me.
Her face, still wet with tears, twisted with anger and disbelief as she glared at me.
“Do you really expect me to believe that?” she snapped, her voice sharp and rising even though she was still on her knees.
“Billy is in a hospital bed right now, fighting for his life! And it’s because of you!” Her voice cracked as she continued, her words filled with blame.

“Go back to Billy and focus on teaching him to control himself. Don’t let him grow up to be so cruel and reckless.” His tone made it clear he wasn’t going to entertain any more of her accusations.
