Chapter 59
-1 let him lead me towards the booth of the Queen Luna. We stood there, still very much aware of the eager eyes focused on us.
“I thank you all for honouring my invitation and being present at this ball,” He said to the guests before turning to the Queen Luna.
“Being the Royal Prince of this kingdom is an honour that I would forever wear with pride. I know you’ve been anxious about when I’d finally bring a crown princess.”
His gaze flicked to me before he turned back to the Luna. “I would like to announce that my search has been fruitful. Princess Melanie will be the most suitable candidate for the crown princess. I hope you accept my decision.”
head whipped to him, the feeling of disbelief hitting me square in the chest. When I wrenched my hand out of his grip, he turned to me.
“How could you?” I asked in disbelief.
“Melanie-”
I didn’t bother waiting to hear what he had to say and immediately left the ballroom, ignoring the sound of him calling my name.
The first thing I thought to do was look for Emma. Luckily, I found her playing in the kids‘ area. Her brows furrowed when I took her into my arms and began making my way into the palace.
“Mommy, is everything okay?” she asked.
I nodded, fighting back the anger that raged beneath my skin. “Yes baby. Everything’s fine.”
Once I reached the palace quarters where we’d been staying, a small sigh left my lips. I dropped Emma on the bed before fishing out my phone.
I needed something to take my mind of Askhan and the stupid stunt he’d just pulled. I would definitely have a word with him about this later.
There was an email from Jane. According to her, Quentin’s subordinates had somehow caught on the fact that we were spying on them. They’d attacked our mainframes with the help of a professional phantom pack.
I mentally made a note to see Hart. Hart was one of the top people in the tech world and someone I’d always wanted to see.
I’d tried inviting Hart to join my pack a couple of years ago but Hart wasn’t one to be submissive to other werewolves. He’d pointedly added that he especially couldn’t be submissive to a she–wolf.
A breath left my lips as I sank back into the chair. I would meet up with Quentin tomorrow. It was high time I paid him a visit.
The next day, I got out of bed as early as possible and quickly got ready. Emma would be in the care of the nannies so I wouldn’t have to worry about
that.
“Be good, okay?” I said to her.
She nodded excitedly. “I’m always good.”
“Yeah right,” I shook my head fondly before waving her goodbye. Jane was already waiting in the car when I came out.
“Quentin’s headquarters.” I said, even though she already knew where we headed.
She nodded before revving up the engine and driving out of the palace gates. We made it to the headquarters in no time thanks to Jane’s awesome driving.
Just as we were about to go in, Gamma held out a hand to me. “Not now.”
I simply nodded, not the slightest bit angry at that. Jane stood by my side, her face pulled in concentration as we all waited.
“In three, two, one…”
Just then, Claire’s car drove by the building. I recognized it from the license plate she’d registered it under.
She must have seen me too as her window wound down just a little. The smirk on my face grew as I sent her a wave.

Her face paled for a few seconds before a look of pure resentment washed over her face. She hurried out of the car, slamming the door behind her before stomping her way towards me.
“What are you doing here?” She glared at me.
“Don’t be so nervous, Ms. Claire.” I said, my tone relaxed ad calm. “I’m just here to show my concern for Quentin. We go way back you know.”
The window of the car wound down and Quentin sat there, staring back at me with a look of helplessness.
There was a certain glint in his eyes, like he knew I had something to do with what he was going through. But he wouldn’t dare to say anything to me.
“Get in, Melanie.” His gaze flicked to Jane. “You too.”
Ishared a glance with Jane before making my way into the car. Sending a small smile at Claire, I made my way into the car, ignoring the fact that she
fuming.
After moving to the back seat of the car, I shut the door close. Quentin’s gaze burned through the side of my head.
When I turned to him, the look of longing in his eyes was
blatantly obvious. “What are you doing here, Melanie?”
A ghost of a smile played at my lips. “I’ve been watching.”
