Chapter 41
There was a knowing look in his eyes as he stared at me. When I looked away and didn’t say anything, Lucian let out a sigh.
“Come on.” He held out a hand for me to take.
I slowly placed my hand on his and let him lead us away from the room. We rounded a few corners before he stopped at a door.
Once inside the room, he carefully shut the door behind him and turned to regard me. “I wanted us to be somewhere quiet, where we could have a better talk.”
odded, taking a seat on the soft bed. Lucian remained standing, leaning back against the wall as he watched me.
said the reason you can’t turn into a wolf now is because of the poison Jack added to your coffee every day?” Lucian asked.
I silently nodded. He went on. “When did you realize he’d been doing this?”
“Right after I gave birth to Emma.” I answered. “The cheater told me that she and jack conspired to do it.”
He nodded his head thoughtfully before going on. “But even if it was a conspiracy, we need to distinguish who is the main culprit and who’s the accomplice, don’t we?”
I felt my nerves churning in my stomach as I let his words sink in. I really know this brother of mine all too well, and in some ways, he’s cold blooded to the point of cruelty.
He must have noticed the look in my eyes as a small smile tugged at his lips.
“It’s just a way to interrogate. It won’t really happen, princess. I promise.”
I nodded, allowing myself to smile just a little. We talked a little before he decided we should head back to join the others.
As we headed back to the room, Quentin’s face popped out from a distance and my mood immediately soured once again. He stopped before Lucian, ignoring my presence.
“I think I’ll be leaving now. There are things I need to do.” He explained.
A ghost of a smile tugged at my lips. I shouldn’t have been so happy that he would be gone and yet, it was hard to deny how I felt about it.
“can’t let you leave.” Luciana answered back calmly. “Haelor has his duties in the army and won’t always be here for Melanie. I would have gladly táken up the role but I have some issues to handle as well. Can you take Melanie home? I need someone with her so I can be sure she’ll arrive home
safely.”
My head whipped to Lucian. “I am not going with him. No way.”
“It wasn’t a question, Melanie.” Lucian continued, his voice calm but strict. “You’ll go with Quentin now. I have somethings to attend to.”
Quentin who didn’t look all that pleased with this new arrangement either gestured for me to follow him.
“Let’s get going.”
I didn’t say a word, folding my arms while I silently followed him outside. The sound of a plane made me look up just in time to see one starting to land.
Quentin didn’t look surprised by it and simply headed straight for the plane that had just landed. I blew out a breath and followed him in.
The interior had a cosy and sleek design with the leathers of the seats been lined with lush materials. The plane looked…nice.
“What is she doing here?”
I froze, dread already pooling in my stomach. That was a voice I’d always hoped I’d never have to hear.
I turned to see Claire standing by Quentin’s side. She was the she–wolf that had always clung to Quentin’s side.
My face remained cold as I stared back at her. Quentin did not look one bit amused as he took her hand off his arm and went past Claire.

Chapter 41
Claire did not look the slightest bit happy to see me on the plane. She whipped her head back to look at Quentin.
“Alpha, you should know! Each of these projects could have been lucrative for pack, as well as helping to elevate your status! But after hearing of the danger to this woman, you discarded all your projects. And you threw it all away just to come and see her.” Claire sounded annoyed, occasionally eyeing me with disdain.
Quentin’s eyes lingered on mine for a while before he turned away. I felt a wave of anger roll through me.
“An error on my part, I know.” Quentin said without looking at me.
“I didn’t ask you to come save me. You did that of your own accord, so don’t make me feel like shit for something you did.” I said, my tone higher due to the anger coursing through me.
Quentin put the paper in his hands down, a cold look in his eyes. “You’re talking too much. So please, keep quiet and get the hell out of my sight.”
Istepped back, feeling a mix of emotions as I watched Quentin. Claire snickered, eyeing me with a look of triumph in her eyes.
“You heard him.” She added. “Go away. Nobody wants you here.”
Quentin’s eyes turned to Claire, the icy coldness never leaving there.
“What are you waiting for, Claire?”
