Chapter 39
There was this nasty female werewolf. An image of her vividly flashed in my head, the always clung to Quentin, framing, me and making me look bad before him
Worst of all was that he never believed me. Countless times, I’d tried explaining things to him but he refused to listen.
“What did you just say?”
My eyes remained narrowed on Quentin, silently daring him to repeat what he had said. He could try to make a jab at me by bringing in Jack but like hell I’d let him just say that.
lost all rights to make any claims of caring about me a long time ago. So trying to do that now was just pure indiskt.
“Exactly what you heard.” He retorted, not bothering to hide the bite in his voice.
“Oh we’re doing this?” I let out a mirthless laugh.
“Don’t start what you can’t finish.” He said blankly, his eyes cold and without remorse.
home eyes.
The rage welling up in me increased ten folds as the longer I watched him. Here he was, looking on without a single diver of remorse in those eyes.
I hated him. Hated the fact that he’d somehow wormed his way back into my life and thought he could just say whatever he liked.
Without thinking, I closed the distance between us, glaring at him with all the anger I could muster.
“You have no right,” I paused, my finger pointed at him. “To talk to me like that. No right at all. I won’t take that from you, you hear me?
“I wouldn’t have to say that if you’d actually think things through and act right.” He said sharply.
For some reason, the argument didn’t seem like it’d stop. Our voices rose higher, each word a perfectly aimed knife at one another.
“I shouldn’t have come here.” Quentin put a hand on his face, letting out a frustrated sigh.
I let out a dry laugh. “Then leave.”
Quentin’s head whipped to me. “Oh I’d be glad to, but I made your brother a promise. And I very well intend to keep it.”
Well you and your promise and go to hell.” I shot back.
Taking one bold step closer to him, I pointed a finger at him, not the slightest bit intimidated by the look in his eyes.
“Stay away from me. Got it?”
Without waiting for a reply, I turned away and left the room. My hands were trembling slightly as the anger still coursed through my veins.
I didn’t think there was a lot of people who could get me as agitated as Quentin always managed to do. It was infuriating.
The first thing I thought to do was head straight for Haelor’s room. His presence was always calming and that was exactly what I needed.
Not bothering to knock, I pushed the door open.
“Ha-”
The words were stuck in my throat as my eyes landed on Haelor. He was making a quick recovery from the skin injury thanks to his healing abilities as a werewolf.
That wasn’t what had me stunned though. Haelor’s eyes flicked to me and a small smile tugged at his lips.
“Melanie. How are you?” He asked, the smile never wavering from his lips.
I swallowed, shutting the door behind me before proceeding to walk in. There were two dumbbells in his hands.
My eyes went down from his eyes to his naked upper body. He must have been working put judging by how much he was sweating.

“I’m okay” I said, the reply coming out later than expected.
He didn’t seem to mind though as he simply nodded his head and went back to lifting the dumbbells in short time ranges.
My eyes lingered on his body moving from his neck to,the rest of his torso. Army aside, Haelor had a pretty good built. He had a body that looked like it had been sculpted by the goddess herself.
Sheens of sweat lined the better part of his muscles as he continued with his workout. Just watching the outline of his figure as he continued his workout made me forget the reason I’d even come here.
The fight with Quentin was immediately pushed to the deepest cornors of my mind as I turned my focus back to Haelor.
Staring at him, I couldn’t help but mentally compare his body to that of Quentin’s. Haelor definitely looked stronger and it wasn’t just the fact that he had served in the army and had probably gone through a lot of rigorous training to get the build he had.
Quentin had a calm look to him, cool and with the aura of a gentleman. Haelor on the hand looked more rugged, no doubt from all the war he’d experienced.
“Is it okay if I watch your routine?” I asked.
Haelor turned to me, his cheek a faint rosy colour. “Oh that’s fine.”
When he dropped the dumbbell for a brief second, I went to touch some of the muscles of his arms, slowly trailing my finger down it.
His pale face reddened even further. Just by touching him alone, I could feel how his pulse had quickened.
“You-”
