There wasn’t a day where she hadn’t been jealous of me or any of my achievements. No matter what I did, she didn’t bother hiding her disdain for all I
had.
Even now, she was no doubt jealous of how far I’d come. And now she was heading straight for Emma,
Without thinking, I rushed over to my daughter. Having malice against me was one thing.
Getting close to my daughter was something I would not tolerate.
“Emma.”
I hated how Bella’s voice had gone saccharine sweet as she held Emma by the shoulders. My daughter turned to look at her with an innocent look in her eyes.
“Bella.” I said with a clipped tone.
They both turned their heads to me as I stopped before them, a bit breathless from walking so fast.
“Is something wrong, Melanie?” Bella had an unnerving smile on her face. “I just wanted to say hello to little Emma.”
“And how wonderful that is.” I narrowed my eyes on her.
Without giving it a second thought, I pulled Emma away from her and picked her up. Emma snuggled into my side, her sweet scent immediately filling
my nose.
My gaze went back to Bella as I regarded her with a bit of wariness. She still had that innocent look on her face but I could read through all of it pretty clearly.
Bellà could fool many people, not me.
I turned to Emma’s nanny who was silently standing there. “Take her to her room.”
“But mommy,” Emma whined as I handed her over to the nanny.
“Be good, Emma.” I said to her, watching as the nanny gently calmed her down before taking her way.
Now that she was gone, I turned back to Bella. Her sweet smile had dropped as she glared at me with a poisonous look.
“Chased your daughter away so she wouldn’t have to see your shame?” Bella cocked her head to the side.
“Shame?” My eyes narrowed on her even further. “What the hell are you even going on about?”
She chuckled. “Oh don’t play dumb now, Melanie. Although that might be hard for you since you already are.”
A group of girls came to stand behind her. By the way they carried themselves, it was easy to guess that they were aristocrats too, probably belonging to some notable families.
“Well, well, well,” One of them eyed me. “Her royal highness finally graces us with her presence.”
“Royal my ass,” Another girl scoffed. “We all know her for what she really is. A dirty pretender and a whore.”
“Excuse you.” I said coldly, my eyes narrowed on them.
“What?” Bella asked innocently.
I could tell she was enjoying every single moment of this, revelling in the sight of me being humiliated in such a way.
“She says she’s divorced but in fact, we all know she was dumped by the Alpha.” Another girl covered her mouth while she giggled.

“Did you all forget?” Hella laughed. “The man who dumped her was nothing but a lowly commoner. The only reason he became Alpha was because he leeched off her money,”
“Pathetic.” A blonde hair girl shook her head.
“How dare you speak to me this way?” I glared at each of them.
They weren’t the slightest bit fazed by it and continued with their onslaught of words. I should have been used to it already. This kind of stuff shouldn’t get used to me.
And yet I remained silent.
“The bitch won’t talk anymore?”
hat else is there to say?”
“And how she’s a divorcee. Safe to say, no one’s going to be looking her way now.”
“Not like they ever did.”
I felt my it again. It was subtle but it was hard to miss. My thoughts were starting to spiral again.
I was all too aware of their voices and at some point, it felt like the only thing I could here, their faces being the only thing I could see. It was all becoming too much.
“Is that what you think?”
Their words came to a deadly halt. I turned to see Askhan behind me. His face was hardened into a glare as he watched the girls.
Bella had gone completely pale as well. They girls that had once been all chatty and so brave were now speechless, unable to say anything at all or even form a sliver of a response.
“Go on. You were saying something, weren’t you?” The coldness of Askhan’s tone left them frozen, unable to say anything or even form a reply.
The silence was deafening. On any other day, I might have even laughed at how stunned they seemed. Now though, all the energy seemed to have deflate from me.
“Leave my sight.” Askhan said, his tone clear and firm.
