“I raised you all these years and this is how you repay me?”
I sneered back, “If by nurturing you mean locking me up in the attic and assigning me the appropriate amount of food based on the amount of chores I do, then why don’t you raise Alice that way?”
With that said, I ignored his angry curses and hung up the phone.
Whenever I am alone, I think of the past.
They are as far away as a shadow, but as close as a shudder.
For years, almost every drop of my heart and soul went to subsidising my adoptive parents, paying off the gambling debts they owed, and keeping their–pack’s running.
But they never changed their ways, they were still addicted to gambling, and this endless vicious cycle exhausted me.
But now, I’m finally free.
I’m free to decide where my money goes, free to spend it on people and things that matter.
As I sat at the small kitchen table, sunlight filtering through the window, I weighed the possibilities in my mind.
What did I want to do with this newfound freedom? My thoughts drifted to the orphanage, a place that had always held a special spot in my heart.
Once, I was nearly an orphan myself, and now that I had the means, I wanted to help those children, to give them a future brighter than the one that‘ had once seemed destined for me.
The decision came quietly, like a gentle breeze stirring the leaves.
I would keep some of the money for myself, for small pleasures and future needs, but the rest–yes, the rest would go to the orphanage.
Those children deserved better.
That weekend, as Leo and I sat down for breakfast, I brought up the idea.
“I’ve decided to make a donation to the orphanage,” I said, trying to keep my tone casual, though my heart pounded with anticipation.
“I think it’s time I gave back.”
Leo looked up from his coffee, his expression neutral as always, but I noticed a flicker of something in his eyes.
“It just so happens that I have no official business to attend to this weekend,” he replied. “I could come along.”
I raised an eyebrow, surprised.
Leo never had the concept of a day off.
Work was his life, and even the most important days were sacrificed for duty.
Panther, his loyal second–in–command, stood behind him, his eyes filled with the familiar longing of a man who knew his Alpha rarely took a break.
Yet here he was, offering to spend the day with me on something that brought him no benefit.
It was a rare and unexpected gesture, one that warmed my heart more than I cared to admit.
When we arrived at the orphanage, I was struck by the sight of the director rushing out to greet us.
Her face lit up with a broad smile as she saw Leo.
“Alpha Leo, why didn’t you call in advance? I would have sent someone to escort you.”
The surprise must have shown on my face, because Leo coughed lightly, his expression a mix of discomfort and pride.

The director, a woman in her fifties with kind eyes and a warm demeanor, answered before Leo could speak.
“Leo often comes here to start charity events. He’s done so much for the children.”
Leo’s embarrassment deepened, and he quickly cut in with his usual cold, hard tone.
“It’s only for the sake of Silvermoon Pack’s image,” he said coldly. “Part of my job as Alpha. Nothing more.”
But I saw through the facade.

“It’s the least I can do.”
The director’s attentiveness increased.
“Why don’t I call a reporter? We can prepare a big donation ceremony for you, which will help increase your exposure! That’s what most of the stars who came here before did ….”
