I accepted the school’s invitation.
At the graduation party, I perfectly presented the carefully prepared repertoire.
Compared to myself at the summer festival, I was a new person, and the consistent training
had been doing for a while had brought me back to the peak of my skills.
At the end of the piece, the applause was like a tidal wave, mixed with murmurs of
admiration and awe.
“Your playing was astounding, truly the pride of our school!”
The principal smiled as he walked over to me, and to my surprise, Orlando was also by his
side, looking at me with a smile.
“Well done, Liz.” Orlando said in a soft tone.
The principal was very surprised; it was not often that he heard words of praise from the fussy piano virtuoso.
“Come with me, I have something to tell you, something that concerns your future.”
“Yes, Father.” I nodded and followed him out of the classroom.
The principal’s eyes widened incredulously when he heard me say the word ‘father‘, and
his expression almost seemed comical until we were far away and he didn’t seem to react.
Orlando Martin’s child was in his school, and he had only found out today?
We ended up in a quiet, dimly lit office–a space that seemed to reflect Orlando’s
introspective nature.
To my surprise, Leo showed up as well, and he insisted on staying with us, seemingly
bursting with possessive feelings for me.
Orlando’s eyes narrowed slightly at Leo’s presence.

“This is a private matter,” he said, a hint of irritation in his voice.
Leo, unconcerned, shrugged and said, “Liz is my Luna, and even though we’re having some conflicts right now, I’m not giving up on her, and her business is my business.”
Orlando’s expression darkened, but before the tension could escalate, I intervened.
“Please, let’s focus on what’s important. What is it you wanted to talk to me about?”
Mando’s gaze softened as he turned to me.
“There’s a competition coming up, a highly prestigious piano event. If you can secure a good score, it will open up countless opportunities for you in the future.”
Leo’s face fell as he absorbed the news.
“How far away is this competition?” he asked, his tone tinged with concern.
“It’s in European territory,” Orlando replied, “You’ll be gone for several weeks, perhaps
longer.”
I could see the conflict in Leo’s eyes.
He didn’t want me to leave, didn’t want to be separated from me for that long.
But I also knew how important this opportunity was for my future.
It was a chance I couldn’t afford to pass up.
Leo looked at me expectantly, his silent plea clear in his gaze.
He wanted me to stay, to choose him over the competition.
It was a precious opportunity, one that I had sacrificed many times before due to the constraints of my marriage.
But today, I resolved not to let it slip through my fingers.
I had made too many compromises in the past, always putting others before my own aspirations.

This time, I was determined to do something for myself.
“I’ll do it,” I said, my voice steady with resolve.
Orlando’s expression brightened immediately.
He handed me a carefully prepared entry form, his eyes gleaming with pride.
“I knew you’d make the right decision, Elizabeth. I’ve already composed a few tracks
ecifically for you to use in the competition. They’re tailored to highlight your strengths as a pianist. All you need to do is practice them, and you’ll be ready.”
I took the form from him, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness bubbling up
inside me.
This was my chance to prove myself, not just as Orlando Martin’s daughter, but as a musician in my own right.
The next few days I focused on my music, perfecting the pieces Orlando had given me. I
often sat in the piano room all day long, finding inspiration in the songs by playing
non–stop.
One night, I didn’t know how long I had been playing until I saw a few cold stars hanging
outside the window and realized that I had been at the piano for too long.
The stars began to twinkle in the night sky and the moon shed its soft silver glow over the
land.
As I was about to leave the piano room, I heard a beautiful violin playing.
The melody was hauntingly beautiful, and yet, there was something familiar about it.
I paused to listen for a moment and was astonished to find that, he was playing a piece I
had composed on a whim back when I was still in school!
I composed this piece on the fly when I was in college.
I played it only once in the school’s practice room and never shared it with anyone.
