Neither of us seemed willing to break it, the night wind carrying away any attempt at
conversation.
Just as I began to relax, a familiar voice shattered the calm.
ria stormed over, her face twisted with fury.
She grabbed my arm, her nails digging into my skin as she spat out her accusation.
“Elizabeth, what are you trying to do? Why can’t you leave Leo alone?”
Her voice was shrill, desperate, but before I could respond, something caught my attention.
The leaves of the nearby shrubs rustled–an unusual sound, given that the wind had stilled
I tensed, my senses heightened as I scanned the terrace for any signs of danger.
And then, it happened.
A shadowy figure burst from the greenery, a weapon glinting in the dim light as it hurtled
toward us.
Time seemed to slow as the figure closed in, his intent clear–he was aiming for Aria and me.
Instinctively, I braced myself for the inevitable pain, expecting Leo to shield Aria, to leave me to fend for myself.

He shoved me aside, his strong arm pulling me away from the line of attack

I could see it in his eyes–his real target was Aria,and I felt the wave as I was near her and he wouldn’t stop until she was dead.
Without thinking, I reacted. Grabbing Aria’s arm, I yanked her out of the way just as the assassin lunged.
