When I woke up the next morning, the bed beside me was cold–Leo had already left.
But something was different–there was breakfast waiting on the table, an unusual gesture
from him.

e sight of the steak and freshly squeezed juice should’ve been enticing, but it left me cold.
All I craved was something simple–just like milk and bread, nothing more.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a message.
[So,rumor has it Rolin’s back in town? And Leo almost decked him over you?]
Emma’s gossip always moved faster than the speed of light.
I quickly texted her the truth to put her curiosity to rest.
But what really caught my attention me was Rolin’s business proposal.
[It’s a great opportunity, Liz.Rolin’s family is very powerful, and it’s rumoured that his music industry spans the globe. You should totally give it a try.]
[But seriously, after all these years, are you sure your skills are still up to par?]
She had a point.
In college, I used to compete in many music competitions and took home numerous
trophies.
But now, I can’t even play a simple scale fluently, and my fingers have become clumsy
and
stiff.

Emma hadn’t even let the message sit for a second before she quickly retracted it.

[Forget it, Leo will probably kill me if I pulled you back into the music.]
I didn’t hesitate for a second.

[Count me in. I’ll be there tonight.]
I didn’t even listen to her inevitable voice message–a long scolding, no doubt–before I started
packing.
td as if on cue, Leo called.
“I’ve got a business trip coming up for a few days. I’ll be going alone.”
“Perfect,” I said casually. “I’ll be staying at Emma’s.”
His voice waved slightly.
“Aria’s not coming with me this time, this job has nothing to do with her.”
“Actually, I’ve been considering other collaborators. I may not have as much interaction with her in the future, so ……”
“Leo, you don’t need to explain,” I interrupted firmly.
“Aria’s always been your business partner. Wouldn’t it be a hassle to replace her now?”
There was a long silence before Leo finally spoke.
“Liz, let’s talk about this when I get back.”
Leo had always been sharp. He knew Aria was the wedge between us, and he could’ve fixed it, but for so long, he chose to blamed me instead.
Now I understood–he wasn’t clueless. He just didn’t want to understand. He never did.
