“This was our wedding ring,” he said quietly. “And it’ll never belong to anyone else. I’m not asking you to marry me again, but I want you to have it. If you really want to leave, we’ll go to the council tomorrow and make it official.” 

I stood there, frozen, as emotions flooded my chest–anger, sadness, confusion.

Before I could process it all, Leo’s voice broke through again. 

“The northern front is at war,” he said, his tone solemn. “A large number of rogues have attacked our territory. I’ll be leading the warriors into battle.” 

I looked up at him, my heart racing.
