It was unmistakable. I wasn’t dreaming.
In a matter of seconds, Leo reached me, moving as quickly as he could.
His hands gripped my shoulders firmly, eyes scanning me from head to toe.
I could feel the intensity of his gaze as he even inspected my fingers, checking for any signs of injury.
Finally, he bent down to roll up my pant leg, his hands gently examining the skin around my knee.

“I’m fine,” I assured him, trying to sound lighthearted. “I faked the fall, just to grab the robber’s gun.”
The tension on Leo’s face slowly faded, replaced by a quiet relief.
He shot a quick glance at the robber still twitching on the ground, then turned back to me.
“The police are on their way,” he said, his voice much calmer now. “Let’s wait in the car until they arrive.”
I nodded, feeling the weight of the situation finally begin to lift. “Sounds good.”
Leo holstered his gun and grabbed my hand, leading me toward the car.
As we walked, curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn’t help but ask, “You must’ve practiced a lot to shoot so accurately back there, right?”
Without missing a beat, Leo replied, “Have you forgotten? I’ve been trained by Alpha since I was a child. Kidnappings, car crashes, they’ve been a constant part of my life. Without some self–defense skills, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”

pang of sympathy hit me. My voice softened as I spoke, “You’ve had it hard, haven’t you?”
Leo’s tone matched mine, quiet but with a warmth that pierced through the chaos.
“The three years I spent with you,” he murmured, “those were the most peaceful years I’ve ever had.”
We reached the car, and Leo reached for the door handle.
Out of the corner of my eye, something caught my attention.
A black car, parked further down the road, had its window rolled down, and I saw it–a glint of metal.
A gun.
Before I could react, Leo sensed it too.
His body tensed, and in one swift motion, he grabbed me, pulling me into his arms and forcing us both into a crouch.
His body shielded mine as a sharp, muffled sound of gunfire ripped through the air.
“Thwack!” The silenced shot missed us by inches, the sound still loud enough to rattle my bones.
I heard Leo inhale sharply, pain mixing into the breath, but he moved quickly.
He yanked the car door open and shoved me inside.
The door slammed shut with a loud “bang,” and in one smooth motion, he drew his gun and crouched behind the car, using it as cover.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!” His shots rang out, shattering the windows of the black car.
The attacker, realizing they were outgunned, ducked down and sped off, the tires screeching as the car swerved away, leaving behind a trail of exhaust and broken glass.

Under normal circumstances, Leo would’ve chased them down, but today was different.
He didn’t hesitate.
He threw open the car door and slid in beside me, his face pale but determined.
“Drive!” he barked at the driver, his voice sharp with urgency. “Take us to the hospital!”
I caught a whiff of something sharp in the air, and it didn’t take long for me to notice–blood.
My eyes widened as I turned to Leo, my gaze falling on his left arm.
His sleeve was torn, and blood was slowly seeping through the fabric.

Leo’s expression softened, his gaze tender as he looked at me.
“Seeing you care about me makes the pain easier to handle,” he murmured, his voice gentle.
He reached up with his uninjured hand, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face, his fingers lingering on my pale cheek.
“Don’t worry,” he whispered. “It didn’t hit anything vital. We’ll get to the hospital, get a few stitches, and I’ll be fine.” He paused, then added with a slight smile, “If you’re really worried, just hold my hand. It’ll make me feel better.”
