“Hello, this is Narik. I’m with Elizabeth right now.” 

Leo’s tone shifted instantly to one of concern. 

“Narik? Stay away from her,” he said sharply. “I don’t want you getting involved with her.” 

“You don’t get to decide this.” 

Narik said mockingly. After saying that, he hung up the phone straight away.

He raised an eyebrow at me, “Now we can get going.” 

I caught the phone and smiled helplessly as I got on the back of his bike. 

The streets were quiet, the fading sun casting a golden glow over the city. 

We pulled our motorbikes over and walked slowly down the street, passing by a few stores until we found ourselves in front of a small shop with a weathered sign above the door. 

It looked ancient, like it hadn’t been touched in years. 

Dusty windows barely revealed the instruments inside, but something about the place drew me in. 

“Should we check it out?” I asked, already pushing the door open. 

Inside, the shop smelled of old wood and varnish. 

Rows of pianos, guitars, and violins filled the room, most of them in various states of disrepair. 

It was a collector’s haven, if only one had the eye for hidden treasures. 

We browsed the aisles quietly, scanning for something that might catch our interest. 

Narik was distracted, his mind still half–occupied with the earlier call, while I took in the atmosphere. 

My gaze fell on an old violin, worn and covered in a fine layer of dust. 

Its body was scarred, and the strings looked like they hadn’t been touched in decades. 

“Look at this,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. 

Narik turned, curious at my tone. “What are you looking at?” 

He followed my gaze to the violin, raising an eyebrow. 

“That thing? It’s practically falling apart.” 

“I know, but… there’s something about it.” 

I reached out, gently lifting the instrument from the display. 

Its weight was familiar, comforting, despite its battered condition. 

Nari frowned but turned to the shopkeeper, an older man who had been watching us from behind the counter. 

“How much for this one?” Narik asked, motioning to the violin. 

The shopkeeper blinked in surprise, as if he hadn’t noticed the violin himself in years. 

“That old thing? I was about to toss it out. I didn’t think anyone would be interested.”

Navik paid, and soon we were walking back home, the violin tucked under my arm. 

Once we got home, I didn’t waste any time. 

I bought some materials and set up a workspace, determined to restore the violin to its former glory. 

The process was delicate; each piece required careful attention. 

Time slipped away as I worked, the world outside fading as my focus deepened. 

I didn’t even notice the door creak open. 

Leo stepped into the room, his gaze settling on me as I worked under the soft glow of the lamp. 

The orange light illuminated the side of my face, and though he didn’t say anything, I could feel his presence. 

He watched me for a long time, not wanting to disturb the moment. 

It wasn’t until exhaustion caught up with me that I even realized he was there. 

My eyelids grew heavy, and before I knew it, I was slumped over the desk, fast asleep. 

In my dreams, I felt a warmth surrounding me, a familiar scent wrapping me in comfort. Leo’s wolf, with its unique scent of woodsmoke and cedar, lingered in my senses, calming me. 

His arms were strong around me, pulling me closer as his heartbeat drummed steadily in my ear. 

We used to sleep like this when we were together, and even in sleep, the memory of his heartbeat lulled me into deeper rest. 

When I woke the next morning, I wasn’t in my study.
