I looked at Logan. “What do you want to say? Are you here to ask for compensation, or to tell me you’re suing me for physical assault?”
“What do you take me for?” Logan’s voice dropped, his demeanor shifting back to the cool, aloof CEO.
“I’m here to apologize. I was impulsive and reckless yesterday. You were right to hit me.”
His words caught me off guard.
Noticing the bandage peeking out from under his baseball cap, I accepted his apology. “It’s good that you know.”

Logan chuckled softly. “Elaine, it seems like you’re becoming… bold.”
Bold? How exactly?
Instead of asking, I simply replied, “You were in the wrong.”
“Yeah, I know.” Logan nodded, his tone serious. “I got too close to Selene, disregarded your feelings, let her stay in the house I prepared for you, and even gave her my supplementary card.” He paused briefly before continuing, “I was completely out of line, and I apologize for that.”
“There’s no need. Right or wrong doesn’t matter now,” I said flatly, turning to leave. But Logan stopped
- me.
“Elaine, I’m not done yet.”
I glanced at his baseball cap. “Go ahead.”
“I’ve admitted my mistakes and apologized. As for that kiss with Selene–it was a joke, an accident. you feel it was unfair, find a guy and even the score.”
His audacious words made me clench my fists.
Logan noticed immediately and quickly dodged to the side before stepping back in. “You can hit me, just not on yesterday’s wound. Pick another spot.”
I couldn’t help but laugh, despite myself.
Had Logan always been this humorous, or was this his way of seeking forgiveness?
“Elaine,” he said, reaching out to me. “Can we start over? Or maybe I can win you back?”
I pulled my hand away, glaring at him. “Logan, it seems my punch may have affected your brain. You don’t even know what you’re saying.”
“I do,” he replied earnestly. “I still want to marry you and make you Mrs. Mercer.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Logan, whether you’re joking or your brain is genuinely damaged, let me make one thing clear–I will never go back on my decisions.”
Logan didn’t flinch. “Elaine, I know you’re upset. Take your–time. I’ll wait for you.”
His shameless persistence was infuriating.
I pressed my lips together. “I’m guessing Tessa hasn’t had the chance to tell you she’s going to adopt me as her goddaughter. That would make you my brother. Can you imagine a brother and sister getting married?”

Logan’s face darkened instantly. “That’s impossible. My parents only see you as their daughter–in–law.”
I didn’t want to argue further. Without another word, I walked away, refusing to entertain his nonsense.
As I got into my car, I heard him call out, “Elaine, I rejected your resignation.”
I slammed my hand against the steering wheel in frustration. How was I supposed to attend interviews if he wouldn’t approve my resignation?
Logan was clearly playing dirty, but I wasn’t about to fall for his tricks.
