Chapter 169
The girl in the waves reminded me of the mermaid from fairy tales.

She danced joyfully, running on the crest of the waves, occasionally spinning with carefree delight.
It was mesmerizing–so vivid and lifelike that it felt as though this wasn’t just a lighting display, but a real young girl playing in the waves.
I held my breath, afraid to blink, worried I might miss even the smallest moment.
Suddenly, with a large splash, another figure appeared on the crest of the waves.
It was a boy.
He was tall, and he stood there looking at the girl.
The girl turned to him, her expression full of curiosity and excitement. A few seconds later, she ran toward him. “Ash, my name is Elaine. What’s your name?”
Hearing this, my heart skipped a beat.
The girl playing in the waves… was me.
“Ash, don’t run away…”
“Ash, wait for me…”
The boy stopped, extending his hand toward the girl. They clasped hands, their movements light and free as they ran together on the waves.
“Ash, I’m tired. Carry me.”
“Ash, run faster…”
The girl climbed onto the boy’s back, and together, they stood high on the crest of the waves, the lights of the ocean swirling around them.
Tears filled my eyes. This wasn’t just a beautiful display–it was a memory. Ashton had used the lights to recreate a moment from my childhood.
The dreams I had, the ones I thought were just fragments of my imagination, weren’t dreams after all. They were real.
“Ash, when I grow up, I’ll marry you.”
“Ash, you have to wait for me. Don’t forget, okay?”
As the scene shifted, I finally understood everything. Ashton’s presence in my life wasn’t a coincidence. It wasn’t planned or deliberate. It was a promise–a promise he had kept all this time.
The lights were magnificent, and for a moment, I felt like I had been transported into a fairy tale. It was as if I had stepped back into my childhood, where everything was simple and pure.
When the lights transitioned to the final scene, I saw my parents. They looked just as I remembered them–embracing one another, smiling warmly at me.

“Elaine, be happy,” they said.
I didn’t know when the tears started falling, but by the end of the light show, I was crying uncontrollably.
Ashton gently wrapped his arms around me. “Your mom and dad are watching. If you cry like this, it will hurt them.”
His words only made my tears flow harder. No one knew how much I missed them–how much I
longed to see them again.
“I thought I’d never see them again,” I whispered.
Ashton held me closer and said softly, “You can say whatever you want to them.”
I looked up at him, startled.
He smiled gently. “Artificial intelligence may have brought them back in this form, but you can still tell them everything you’ve been holding in your heart.”
I had so much to say. But in that moment, I couldn’t find the words. Deep down, I knew this was just an illusion–an incredible, heartfelt illusion.
In the end, I said nothing. I simply continued to look at them, memorizing every detail of their faces.
I didn’t even notice when the Ferris wheel started moving again.
When it stopped, Logan was waiting outside the other cabin.
He walked toward us, his face dark with anger. Without hesitation, he yanked open the cabin door.
“Ashton, come out now!” he barked, his tone sharp and commanding.
Startled, I looked up.
Logan’s gaze flicked to me, and when he saw my tear–streaked face, his expression briefly faltered. For a moment, he looked taken aback.
Ashton, however, ignored him entirely. Instead, he wiped my tears away with his thumb, his touch. gentle and deliberate. “Take your time here,” he said softly.
He patted the back of my head before stepping out of the cabin.
But I instinctively grabbed his hand, not wanting him to leave.
“It’s okay,” Ashton reassured me, giving my hand a light squeeze before carefully freeing himself and walking toward Logan.
