Ashton’s words struck me as oddly familiar. They echoed what Alex had said earlier, which was supposedly a message from our mysterious boss.
But no… Ashton couldn’t possibly be the boss.
“Cocky, huh?” the bald man scoffed. “Let’s see how tough you really are.” He cracked his neck and barked, “Destroy the place!”
The group behind him sprang into action, smashing everything in sight.
Ashton remained still, his composure unshaken. I quickly understood why. He wasn’t afraid of them- he knew that by damaging the amusement park, these men were effectively provoking Logan. And Logan would never let anyone harm his property without retaliation.
Moments later, the park’s security guards arrived, rushing toward the scene. While they might have ignored a personal dispute between Ashton and the thugs, property destruction was a different matter. Protecting the amusement park was their responsibility.
Though the group of punks seemed tough, they were no match for the number of guards. Within minutes, the security team had subdued them.
But just as I thought the situation was under control, the bald leader grabbed one of the guards, holding a knife to his neck. “Back off, or I’ll slit his throat right here!” he snarled.
The scene froze me in place. I quickly gestured for the guards to release the punks.
The guards hesitated but eventually stepped back. Yet, the bald man didn’t release his hostage. Instead, he turned to Ashton with a wicked grin.
“I know you’re stubborn, but I like a challenge,” he said. “If you want this man to live, kneel and apologize to me. Otherwise, get ready for a bloodbath.”
“You can’t do that!” I blurted out instinctively.
The bald man shifted his attention to me. “Hey, pretty lady. I can see you’re soft–hearted. Why don’t you come with me instead? I promise I won’t hurt him–or you.”
His leer sent a shiver down my spine. It was clear there was no reasoning with him.
As he began inching toward me, I decided to act. If I waited any longer, he would grab me. I prepared myself to strike the moment he got close enough.
But before I could execute my plan, Ashton appeared beside me and delivered a powerful flying kick to the man’s chest.
The bald man let out a pained wail as he crashed to the ground. His head hit the floor with a heavy thud, bouncing twice from the impact. Despite his bulk, he seemed almost comically bouncy.
The other punks froze in shock, their eyes darting between their fallen leader and Ashton.
“Tank!” one of them cried, rushing to his side.
Tank, as they called him, was definitely tanking the damage.
Before they could retaliate, Ashton’s voice rang out, cold and commanding. “Scram!”
The punks hesitated for a moment, but then, one by one, they scrambled to pick up their groaning

I watched them disappear before turning to Ashton. The park around us was a mess, with shattered items strewn everywhere.
“What exactly happened?” I asked, my voice laced with concern.
“They were trying to stop me from investigating my father’s car accident,” Ashton said matter–of–factly.
His honesty caught me off guard. After today, it was clear his father’s accident wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
“What have you found out so far?” I asked cautiously.
At first, Ashton didn’t respond. Considering how I’d been avoiding him recently, I realized my question might have been out of line.
I gave him an awkward smile. “You know what? Forget I asked-”
Before I could finish, a voice called out, “Mr. Mercer.”
