Alex glanced at me, his expression unreadable. “Why? Are you that interested in him?”
“Yes, I am. He’s so mysterious–I can’t help but be curious,” I admitted honestly,
Alex finished grinding the beans, inhaling the aroma with a satisfied expression. “Delightful,” he murmured before turning to me. “Let me make you a cup of coffee.”
“No, thank you,” I replied impatiently. My desire to learn more about the boss outweighed any interest in coffee.
Alex held up the container of freshly ground beans. “This is a gift from our boss. Are you sure you don’t want to try it?”
“I’d rather meet him than try his coffee,” I said bluntly.
Alex laughed at my frankness, his reaction both confusing and frustrating.
“What’s so funny, Mr. Hall? Am I asking for too much? Or is there something I don’t know?”
He shook his head, still smiling. “No, it’s not too much. I’m just amused by how irresistible our boss is. You’ve never even met him, yet you’re dying to see him. He’s kind of dangerous, don’t you think?”
I said nothing, unsure how to respond. Alex seemed to enjoy teasing me.
When he placed the cup of coffee before me, I decided to try again. “If you’re so worried about me meeting him, why not just show me his resume? I only want to know more about him.”
“Well… I can’t do that,” Alex said with a shrug.

“He doesn’t allow it.”
“And why is that?”
“He doesn’t want women developing ulterior motives toward him,” Alex said with a sly grin.
The rich aroma of the coffee wafted to my nose. With my upbringing in the Gildob household, I could immediately tell this was a premium brew. It only confirmed that our boss wasn’t an ordinary man.
Alex leaned back and added, “Our boss is a magnetic man. Sure, women fawn over him, but even l can’t help but admire him sometimes.”
I sighed inwardly, realizing Alex wasn’t going to give me any answers. As much as I wanted to know more, I decided to drop the subject.
“Please take a sip, Ms. Hart. I promise it’ll be your favorite coffee from now on,” Alex urged.
I smiled faintly. “If that’s the case, I’d rather not. I’m afraid I can’t afford for it to become my favorite,” I
said as I rose to leave.
“Are you sure? Not everyone gets the chance to try such refined coffee. Don’t regret it!” Alex called after
me as I walked out the door.
After returning to my office, I tried asking around about the boss. Most of my colleagues said they had only met Alex since joining the company. The idea of another higher–up was news to them, let alone meeting him.
