“I can do this…” Leah’s eyes were watery from the smoke, making it hard to see.

She was covered in dirt but kept adding wood to the fire. After a while, she still wanted to show off her
effort on camera.
But when she looked around, she noticed her PD wasn’t following her. Through the window, she saw him filming Robin instead!
Leah’s face twisted in frustration.
Halle noticed Leah had stopped moving and started mocking her. “Why are you standing still? I knew you I couldn’t do it. Honestly, the only reliable one here is that girl outside. You’re way worse than her!”

The firewood in Leah’s hands broke in two.
She quickly turned off the microphone, her eyes red with anger as she muttered bitterly, “How can I be worse than her? She doesn’t even have a medical license! If it weren’t for her lucky connection with a great mentor, she wouldn’t be in this position!”
Halle’s eyes went, wide. “What? She doesn’t have a license? Oh my gosh, how did she manage to fool people into thinking she’s a doctor? You’re putting people’s lives at risk!”
Leah’s rationality returned. Realizing her mistake, she rushed to stop Halle from spreading the news. She was close to tears, looking helpless and regretful.
“Please, Halle, don’t tell anyone. It’s a known secret at the hospital, but no one outside knows about it.”
Halle stood firm. “No way! How can we let someone who’s not even qualified treat people here? What if something goes wrong? I have to warn everyone about her!”
Leah tried to calm her down. “But her mentor is Master Field, and she’s well–known online. Halle, do you go online? A lot of people admire her. I don’t mind, but if you go against her, you might face trouble from Master Field, the hospital, and even the TV show. They won’t let it slide.”
Halle was caught off guard by Leah’s words. Still, she tried to act tough. “I’m not scared of their revenge! Are you afraid?”
Leah sighed deeply. “I know you’re not, but … you have a family, don’t you?
“You’re right. I’m scared. I don’t care about myself, but I can’t risk my family because of my mistake. I don’t want you getting hurt because of me.”
Halle went quiet.
The elderly residents in the courtyard all needed help with daily tasks. Several families had pooled money to hire her to cook three meals a day for them, and the pay was decent.
When she heard that some specialists from the city were coming to offer free medical care, she wasn’t happy at all.

Halle realized she needed to find a way to let someone else expose the situation. If there was a commotion, the treatment could be delayed, and she could keep her job.
Thinking about that, Halle scoffed, acting as though she was making a huge sacrifice. “Fine. Since you begged me so hard, I won’t say anything.”
With an air of arrogance, she went back to cooking and reminded Leah to tend the fire.
Leah obeyed, but as she lowered her head, a flash of cold hatred crossed her face.
After dinner, everyone returned to their rooms.
The village didn’t have proper facilities, and even bathwater had to be heated in large iron pots.
There were six girls on this side, and after taking turns to shower, it was already past midnight.
Charmaine stayed behind to be the last one. When she finished and came out, the yard and the house were completely dark. Everyone had fallen asleep from exhaustion.
Her face disappeared into the darkness as she quietly climbed into bed.
As soon as she lay down, her body relaxed completely.
Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, her phone vibrated.
She quickly grabbed it and saw a video call request from Emyr.
She hesitated for a moment, pulled up the blanket, and answered the call with her earphones on.
On the other side, Emyr was staring at a dark screen, trying to make out any shapes.
Realizing the screen wasn’t broken, he frowned and asked, “Where are you?”
His deep, smooth voice made Charmaine’s ears tingle.
