Sensing his stare, Charmaine lowered her eyes slightly.
Her voice was cold and distant as she said, “The moment you chose to use such dirty tricks against me, you lost the right to stay in the army.
“Right is right, and wrong is wrong. If you still think you did nothing wrong, your pride will drag you down eventually–even if I’m not around to witness it.”
With that, she turned and left the room with Celeste.
Liam stood there in shock, frozen for a while. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he jumped up and ran after her.
But before he could get close, a group of men in black blocked his path. One of them stood out with a commanding presence.
“It’s Tad!”
Veronica recognized him right away. Her face twisted with envy and disbelief. “I knew it! There’s no way Charmaine knows the auction house owner. It’s all because of Mr. Emyr. She’s probably spending his money too!”
Leah gripped the gift box tightly, her hand turning pale from the pressure. Her expression was twisted, a reflection of the ugly thoughts running through her head.
Charmaine didn’t see Emyr until she stepped outside.
“You’re here too?”
Emyr reached for her and gave a signal to Kane.
“Take her back to the hotel,” he said, clearly referring to Celeste.
Kane hesitated. “But Emyr, aren’t we supposed to have dinner with the partners tonight?”
Emyr had already helped Charmaine into the Maybach without even turning back. “Something came up.”
The business partners standing nearby saw everything.
Seriously, Mr. Emyr? Couldn’t you at least make up a better excuse? We’re all standing right here!
Once inside the car, Charmaine noticed the message Emyr had sent earlier–it included a photo of the
auction room.
She stuck out her tongue playfully. “Oops, I just saw your message.”
Emyr gently squeezed her hand. “I would’ve brought you here if I’d known you were coming.”

Emyr gave a soft laugh and shook his head. Then, his eyes locked onto Charmaine’s face, his expression unreadable.
His intense stare threw her off, making her feel like he could see right through her.
Charmaine instinctively leaned back, nervous, and a hundred thoughts raced through her mind in an instant. “W–what is it?”
Emyr stretched a hand toward her. “You…”
She closed her eyes tightly and chose to come clean. “If this is about the necklace money, I used the savings I had set aside for Mrs. Jane’s treatment. I haven’t spent it. I wasn’t trying to avoid paying you back!”
She didn’t mention the fact that she’d actually saved over two million.
Emyr didn’t say anything.
She had said everything in one breath, but there was no response.
Peeking with one eye, she noticed he didn’t look upset, so she slowly opened the other.
Timidly, she asked, “Are you mad?”
Emyr’s mouth twitched slightly, clearly surprised she was still hung up on that. His hand, which had been frozen mid–air, moved forward and pressed firmly against her cheek.
With a sigh, he said, “What I meant was … Celeste kissed you right here.”
Charmaine froze. “Huh?”
Seriously? Satan just used a simple move to blow my cover?
Ugh, I really need to stop being so passive. I’m always the one losing out!
Once he confirmed the mark on her face was covered, Emyr finally lowered his hand, looking satisfied.
When he noticed how dejected she looked, he lifted an eyebrow.
“So, you’ve been stashing money away from me, huh?”
Charmaine quickly responded, “I already used most of it. There’s barely anything left!”
Emyr didn’t look convinced. “Why aren’t you using the card I gave you?”
She scratched her head awkwardly. “I figured it was better to use my money than owe you more.”
He cleared his throat, feeling oddly like he’d just been slightly dissed.
