Charmaine felt her head spinning, and when her mind started to clear, she realized Emyr had pulled away from her. She now lay collapsed in his arms, gasping for air like a fish out of water.
Seeing her flushed face and dazed expression, Emyr assumed she’d been deprived of oxygen.
He couldn’t help but frown. “Didn’t you know how to breathe?”
Charmaine, sensing his disdain, groaned in a muffled voice, “How was I supposed to think of that?”
Emyr thought for a moment, and then nodded as if it were the most natural thing. “Well, you don’t have much experience. Just kiss a few more times, and you’ll get better.”
Sorry?
It sounded like he was trying to help, but something about it felt off.
Emyr, a little reluctant to let go, gently squeezed her shoulder a few times.
In the end, he slowly pulled his hand back but couldn’t resist giving her soft, flushed cheek another pinch.
“I might be late tonight. If you get tired, just head to bed early.”
Charmaine murmured, “Okay.”
Seeing her look so obedient yet a bit lost, his gaze deepened, his thoughts becoming more intense.
He took a deep breath, calmed himself, and fought the urge to pull her back into his arms and kiss her again before finally leaving the bedroom.
No need to rush; there will be plenty of time in the future.
After Emyr left, Charmaine went back to packing her suitcase.
Her hands were busy, but her mind had long wandered off somewhere far away.
She had never really thought about relationships before.
But with Emyr, her reasoning seemed to have little effect, and so many things felt completely out of her control.
After dinner, Charmaine sat in her room and played PUBG with Mia.
Mia had only recently become addicted to PUBG, but she was not familiar with this type of game. Her movements were stiff and robotic, and she got so angry that she screamed every time she played.
Tonight, she decided to redeem herself and called Charmaine, Rex, and Sid for a squad game, hoping to get carried by their strong skills.
The idea was great, but the reality was harsh.
Even with three powerful players on her team, she was still the first to get eliminated, forced to watch from a third–person perspective as the others dominated the match.

Rex was so frustrated he was about to choke, “You think we’re all as good as the Boss at this game?!”
“Well, you guys can’t compare to the Boss. You’re all too bad at it.”
Rex’s frustration worsened.
After playing for over three hours, Charmaine checked the time and decided to log off first.
She opened WhatsApp and saw the class group chat filled with excitement.
The reason? Tomorrow, the final exam scores would be released, and everyone was guessing who would come in first place this time.
“Definitely not Charmaine. She was late for the listening exam, so she probably lost a lot of points.”
“I used to feel sorry for her, but now I get it–there’s always a reason behind someone’s misfortune!”
“She’s always first; it’s getting boring. It’s time to give someone else a chance!”
“Exactly, and even if she’s not first, she’ll still get an internship at the Cross Group. Might as well give that spot to someone else.”
“Well, that’s not so simple. We have to draw lots. We can’t just cheat openly like that.”
As Charmaine read through the sarcastic comments in the group, her lip twitched.
Just then, Celeste jumped in and blasted everyone with her rapid–fire comments.
“Wow, you guys are saints. The one always getting first isn’t any of you, but you’re ready to give Charmaine’s spot away? How shameless!
“She earned that first place with her own hard work. If you had the skills, you’d be at the top too. But instead, you’re just hoping she’ll lose points on the listening part. How embarrassing!
“Charmaine’s grades prove her strength. What company wouldn’t want her? Unlike you guys, a bunch of useless whiners, just waiting for the draw to decide your fate!”
The class group went silent.
Once Celeste showed up, no one dared to respond. They all quickly went silent, too scared to take the heat.
Celeste, satisfied, clicked on Charmaine’s chat window.
“Did you see that, Charmaine? Not one of those fools dared to say anything after that!”
