Charmaine looked at him in disbelief, her eyes sparkling. “Do you like horror movies?”

Emyr frowned slightly. He didn’t have much of an opinion on the matter, so he simply replied, “Yeah.”
“Wow, that’s great!”
She excitedly scrolled to the horror movie section. “I’ve been wanting to watch one for so long! There’s this trailer that looked really good, but I never dared to watch it. Since you’re fine with them, you can watch it and tell me what’s happening!”
Emyr felt like he had fallen into a trap.
Charmaine looked at him expectantly. “Please, please? Pretty please!”
It was rare to see her show such a cute and innocent expression.
Emyr’s face stiffened. “Got it.”
Before he could say anything else, Charmaine had already found the movie she wanted, eagerly pressing play before diving headfirst under the covers.
The words “Silent Valley” appeared in bold, blood–red letters at the center of the screen. Emyr felt a throbbing twitch at the back of his head.
At this point, there was no turning back.
Emyr swallowed and began speaking in a steady voice, “Three young adventurers, always seeking thrills, -posted an invitation online. Along with ten others, they ventured into the legendary Silent Valley, a place
where no one ever returns…”
His voice had a unique quality.
Most of the time, it was calm and distant, like the endless depths of a still ocean.
When angered, his tone would tighten, carrying a commanding weight, like a towering peak, overwhelming and impossible to ignore.
Now, Emyr lowered his voice even more–deep, magnetic, and hoarse that could make countless women swoon–as he steadily narrated the scenes unfolding on the screen.
Charmaine curled up beneath the plush covers, burying her head in the soft fabric. Outside, the sharp mountain wind howled past, yet she felt an inexplicable sense of security.
She didn’t expect this at all.
She was just joking, thinking he’d scoff and brush her off like usual. Who would’ve thought that Satan would actually go along with such a ridiculous request?
Her gaze lowered slightly, the dim light from the projector flickering across her face, but her thoughts had already wandered elsewhere.
Emyr remained focused on the screen.

The atmosphere grew heavier, the tension steadily building.

Then, out of nowhere, a shadowy figure flashed behind the male protagonist–so abrupt and eerie that, despite not believing in ghosts or the supernatural, even Emyr felt a jolt of unease.
His voice came to an abrupt halt, and his fists clenched silently.
Who knows how many times he had cursed Kane in his head by now?
That idiot and his terrible ideas!
Emyr took a deep breath, trying to steady himself and continue narrating.
But then, he realized something–Charmaine had gone completely quiet.
Glancing down, he saw that she had dozed off without him noticing.
Relief washed over him, and the tension in his body finally eased.
It didn’t take long for Emyr to realize something ridiculous–he was actually worried she’d complain.
Was he afraid of her?
“Mmm… Why did you stop talking…” Charmaine mumbled sleepily, and without thinking, Emyr instinctively responded with a few more words.
Half–asleep, she moved closer, rubbing against his shoulder before settling back into deep sleep.
Emyr silently scoffed at his reflex, feeling both frustrated and helpless when it came to Charmaine.
“She really knows how to push her luck.”
His fingers itched with the urge to move, and before he realized it, he reached out.
The hand that had so often gripped Charmaine’s neck now landed gently on her cheek.
His fingertips brushed against her skin–soft, warm, with a faint rosy tint.
Something in his chest seemed to melt. That unfamiliar, tingling sensation spread through his nerves, leaving a lingering warmth.
He must be completely under Charmaine’s spell. How else could she be the only one to make him feel this way?
The feeling was impossible his control, yet he craved more.
Addicted.
Emyr shifted slightly, tilting his head toward hers so Charmaine could sleep more comfortably against his shoulder.
And just like that, the two of them dozed off, leaning into each other as the eerie sounds of the horror movie filled the room.

As dawn approached, the sky gradually brightened.

The suite’s curtains, facing the sunrise, were left wide open. Tad and the others had taken turns keeping watch and they were just behind them.
With the morning light streaming in, the scene inside became clear–two figures cuddling together, fast asleep in peaceful silence.
