Chapter471
Upon arriving at the base, Ashley immediately plunged into her work. The perfection of human–machine combat required data support.
On Ashley’s second day at the base, another human–machine combat test was arranged.
That evening, Ashley went to the cafeteria very late for dinner. When she arrived, there were few people left.
She got her food and was about to sit down when she saw Matt. He had also just gotten his food.
Matt paused, and walked over to her with a smile. “When did you get here?”
“Yesterday,” Ashley said, then asked, “Just finished training?”
“Yeah, the training tasks are heavier this year.”
Future air combat would no longer be a contest between humans. It was becoming a chess match between pilots and machine intelligence. Therefore, pilots‘ current training and combat methods had undergone significant changes compared to previous years.
Ashley asked, “Does that stress you out?”
Al possessed formidable computational and data analysis capabilities. It could rapidly identify opponents‘ weaknesses and formulate corresponding tactical strategies. Its reaction speed and precision were surpassing human imagination.
Even for Matt, an experienced pilot with extremely sharp insight, battling AI was bound to be stressful.
Matt smiled. “Yes, but it’s also pushing us to constantly improve ourselves.” AI technology could simulate various complex battlefield environments and combat scenarios, the pilots had grown through more realistic and comprehensive training.
Ashley said, “It must be demanding.”
“The demands on you researchers are no less than ours.“After speaking, he noticed that although her table manners were refined, she ate quickly. He asked, “You’ll need to return to work afterward, right?”
“Yes.” Burke had given her a heavy workload, and she was indeed very busy.
As soon as she finished speaking, her communicator beeped. It was a message from Burke, asking her to return to the R&D department immediately.
She put down her chopsticks and immediately stood up.“I gotta go. Take your time.”
Matt nodded.“Okay.”
This time, Ashley left the base on Sunday morning, around 10 am.
When she got home and turned on her phone, she found that Sam and Marshall had both called her.
She only returned Marshall’s call. He kept grumbling about how long it’d been since her last visit.
Ashley knew she was at fault. After changing her clothes, she grabbed her car keys and went out.
As she drove into the Marshall’s mansion, she saw Chase’s car parked in the courtyard.

Ashley looked away. As soon as she got out of the car, Sam, who heard the car, ran out of the house and threw himself into her arms.“Mom!”
Ashley hadn’t seen Sam for almost a month. She ruffled his hair and asked, “When did you get here?”
Sam really missed her. Holding her hand tightly, he happily said, “We just arrived!”
Ashley, holding Sam’s hand, entered the house. Chase and Marshall were sitting on the sofa and drinking tea. Tanya wasn’t there.
Seeing her, Marshall smiled and waved.“Come and take a seat.”
Chase also looked at her. But he immediately looked away.
Ashley sat down next to Marshall and greeted him.
Marshall checked her out and then frowned. “You’ve lost weight again.”
She hadn’t been eating regularly at the base, so she had indeed lost a few pounds.
Before she could speak, she saw Chase skillfully rinsing a porcelain cup and pouring her a cup of tea. Then, he placed it in front of her.
Ashley didn’t speak, but tapped the coffee table twice with her fingers to express her thanks.

Marshall asked Ashley, “Someone sent me two premium–grade yellowlip fish the other day. How would you like them prepared? I’ll have the kitchen make it for you.”
Ashley lifted her teacup and took a small sip. As the clear, refreshing tea warmed her throat, she opened her mouth to respond–only to hear Chase interject, ‘Why not ask me? Playing favorites already?”
