Leah furrowed her brows tightly, carefully holding back her emotions. “I’ve disappointed you, Mom; it’s my fault.”
“What does this have to do with you? It’s clearly-”
She abruptly cut herself off, likely recalling Emyr’s ruthless mockery just moments ago. Her face turned even uglier.
Leah gently embraced Olympia’s trembling body, tears streaming down her face. “It’s because I’m not good enough. I couldn’t bring honor to our family. If only I were your daughter, I could stand taller, face Chara without fear, and be more outstanding. Then maybe I’d win everyone’s admiration.”
She bit her lip, suppressing her grievances. When Olympia looked at her in shock, she quickly turned her head away to wipe her tears as if she didn’t want her mother to see her sadness–so sensible, so considerate.
Seeing her like this–one hand wrapped in gauze, the other still seeping blood from earlier–Olympia’s guilt deepened, swallowing her whole!
“My precious girl, it’s me who has failed you!”
Olympia clung to Leah, sobbing uncontrollably. “I was too impulsive! I was so fixated on fighting with Charmaine that I completely ignored your feelings. You were the one who suffered the most–injured because of her, unable to perform on stage. You should feel the most wronged, yet you’re here comforting me. I was so foolish. I have such a wonderful daughter–why should I care about that wretched girl?!”
Leah leaned against her mother, her face showing no trace of sorrow. “Mom, don’t say that. The opportunity to perform wasn’t mine to begin with. I only thought that if I could stand on stage and bring glory to our family, it would at least repay you and Dad for all your years of effort in raising me. I just… I just didn’t
expect…
”
She let her voice trail off, already choked with emotion.
“My good girl, say no more–I understand your heart.”
Olympia felt even more tormented. The more mature and sensible Leah acted, the heavier her guilt became!
Taking a deep breath, she gently pushed Leah back slightly, looking into her eyes with unwavering determination.
“Remember, Charmaine is no longer my daughter. She is just a stranger with no ties to us! If you ever face her again, you don’t have to hold back or yield to her in any way. You are the precious daughter of the Nelsons–far more noble than that lowly servant girl!”
As she spoke, she affectionately stroked Leah’s hair, her eyes filled with unwavering resolve.
“This whole situation has made me realize–I need to pour even more effort into shaping my daughter’s future. Soon, all of Eragos will know that Leah is the most outstanding daughter of the Nelsons!”
Hearing these words, Leah’s heart surged with excitement, her joy barely contained. “Thank you, Mom! I will work even harder to make both you and Dad proud!”

The summit’s first day concluded perfectly, and Kane and a few others discussed where to celebrate.
Just as they exited the venue, the cool autumn breeze brushed past, and Charmaine sneezed lightly.
Emyr’s gaze immediately turned to her. “Cold?”
Charmaine rubbed her nose. “Not really.”
Emyr gestured for Tad to prepare the car. “Then let’s head home.”
This decision made Shawn nearly drop his jaw in shock. “Wait, what? Did I hear that right, Mr. Emyr? Just because Ms. Nelson sneezed, you’re ditching us?”
Emyr arched a brow. “You have a problem with that?”
Of course, he had a problem–a big problem!
But…
Shawn swallowed his complaints, not daring to voice a single one.
Scratching his cheek awkwardly, he muttered, “Alright then, you two head back early. Stay warm.”
Charmaine hesitated. “But I already promised Celeste we’d have a meal together.”
Emyr shot her a warning glance. “I’ll give you a chance to refuse.”
Charmaine pouted. She knew better than to challenge Satan, so she obediently sent a message to Celeste, promising to reschedule.
After bidding farewell to the others, they got into the Maybach.
The car’s heater was already on. As soon as Charmaine sat down, she felt the warmth seeping into her bare legs, instantly comfortable.
A thought suddenly struck her, and she leaned closer to Emyr. “Mr. Emyr, didn’t you say there was a reward for me?”
