Emyr lifted his gaze to her face.
For the first time, she looked as lifeless as a stagnant pool of water.
A shadow flickered in his eyes. His voice, deep and steady, resonated in her heart like a drumbeat.
“Charmaine, you’re not giving up just like that, are you?”
Her eyelashes quivered slightly.
After a brief pause, she raised her eyes to meet his burning gaze.
She saw her reflection in his deep, unfathomable eyes.
The suffocating weight in her chest suddenly found an outlet, dissolving in an instant.
A faint smile played on her lips. “Who said I was giving up?”
“I was just thinking–next time, I should use a few more needles. Maybe that’ll be more effective.”
Emyr was at a loss for words.
