Neither Zark nor Gabriel had broken the unspoken tension.

Chase glanced over and saw Ashley and Gabriel talking. Gabriel’s gaze was soft and intense, as if he were looking at the love of his life. He even gently took the empty glass from Ashley’s hand, placed it aside, and then got a cake from a higher shelf to her.
Chase’s eyebrows rose in interest at the scene of attentive courtship.
