My throat tightened as I wondered if Ashton intended for Logan to share an observation cabin with us.
Just as I was about to say something, Ashton surprised me by taking my hand and leading me toward
another observation cabin.
“Aren’t you going to take this one?” Logan’s voice came from behind us.
“It’s not convenient,” Ashton replied calmly as he helped me step into the cabin.
He followed me in and closed the door behind us.
Through the glass of the cabin, I caught a glimpse of Logan’s expression darkening. His jaw clenched, and his eyes flashed with barely concealed anger.
He was definitely upset.
“Was this intentional?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at Ashton.
“Yes,” he admitted with a confident smile.
“I didn’t want to share a cabin with him,” he added, his tone mixing pride with a hint of childishness.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Ashton continued to surprise me. He could be tough and commanding one moment, warm and caring the next, and now, he was adorably childish.
“Ashton,” I called out softly.
“Yes?” he responded, turning to look at me, his eyes sparkling under the soft cabin lights.
“You’re very cute.”
As soon as I said it, the music inside the Ferris wheel began to play.
It was perfect timing.
“What?” Ashton looked at me with an almost comical mix of disbelief and surprise, as if he wasn’t sure he’d heard me correctly.
I smiled but didn’t repeat myself. Instead, I turned my gaze outward to the stunning view.
As the Ferris wheel ascended, the entire amusement park unfolded below us, a dazzling tapestry of lights and motion.
I could see everything–the carousel spinning with its cheerful glow, the roller coaster winding its way through the park, the lazy river meandering under bridges, and the rest of the park slowly shrinking as we rose higher. Beyond the park, the city of Hilcord stretched out, its skyscrapers glittering like jewels against the night sky.
But my eyes were drawn back to the amusement park.
The park’s interior was designed for fun and excitement, while its exterior was crafted to inspire awe. The dazzling city lights served as its soul, making it the brightest star in Hilcord’s skyline.

This amusement park wasn’t just a place for entertainment. It was a new landmark for the city–a place that symbolized hope and dreams.
“Elaine, I got you this. Do you like it?”
Logan’s voice echoed in my memory, from the day he first showed me the amusement park’s blueprint.
At that moment, I truly believed he loved me.
Otherwise, how could he have known about my childhood dream of building an amusement park? It was a dream I had shared with my dad, one of the few things that connected us.
Logan had made that dream come true. But like so many things in life, it ended before it could fully flourish.
The Ferris wheel lights continued to shift and change, each hue carrying a unique meaning. Blue symbolized deep affection, red represented prosperity, and purple reflected depth and persistence.
I thought back to the day I chose the lighting for the amusement park. Several companies had compet ed for the project, and in the end, I’d chosen the one Ashton worked for.
Now, as I watched the lights dance before me, I realized that the moment I made that decision, my fate had already begun to intertwine with Ashton’s.
I glanced at him just as the Ferris wheel reached its highest point.
“Do
you
know the legend of the Ferris wheel?” Ashton asked softly, his gaze shifting upward toward
the stars.
I pressed my lips together thoughtfully. “I don’t know the legend, but I’ve heard that if you make a wish when the Ferris wheel is at its highest point, it will come true.”
“Do you want to make a wish?” Ashton asked, his eyes turning to meet mine.
At that moment, his gaze was so intense, so full of light, that it reminded me of stars falling from the heavens.
I thought about it for a few seconds before shaking my head. “No, I won’t.”
“Why not?” he asked, his voice soft but curious.
I gave him a wry smile. “Because then it won’t come true.”
When I was a child, I used to make wishes on my birthday–I wished that my parents would love me forever and that we’d always be together.
But fate had been cruel, and it took them away from me.
“Make a wish. I’ll help you make it come true,” Ashton said suddenly.
Before I could respond, he moved behind me and gently covered my eyes with his hands.
