Chapter 242
That morning, Maggie had barely been busy for long when she received the official acceptance notice from the AI journal.
A little while later, Johnny came over to discuss work. Upon learning that her paper had been accepted, he wasn’t surprised.
After all, with Nolan, such a respected authority, backing her, if Nolan thought her paper was good, there was no way it wouldn’t be approved.
After they finished discussing work, Maggie checked the time and asked, “Want to grab a bite to eat together?”
Johnny rubbed his brow and, looking slightly troubled, said, “I already have plans.”
Maggie looked up. “What’s going on?”
Johnny pursed his lips and sighed. “… It’s a blind date, arranged by my grandfather.”
Maggie burst out laughing. “You’re 28, and this is your first blind date? You’re lucky, honestly.”
Johnny: ”
”
Actually, his family wasn’t in a rush about his marriage. The blind date was with the granddaughter of one of his grandfather’s friends, and since his grandfather couldn’t refuse, he had to go along with it.
Maggie said, “Well, go ahead then. I’ll eat in the cafeteria.”
Johnny nodded. “Okay.”
Half an hour later, Johnny arrived at the restaurant.
It was a very romantic couple–themed restaurant.
When he arrived, the woman was already there.
As he was settling in, Levi arrived with his companion. He immediately spotted Johnny sitting at the table, though Johnny had his back to him and didn’t notice him.
Levi raised an eyebrow and, with his companion, sat down at a table behind Johnny.

Although Johnny was speaking softly, Levi, sitting close behind him, could hear him talking to his blind date, confirming that Johnny was indeed on one.
Noticing that Levi’s attention wasn’t on him, his companion was about to speak, but Levi put a finger to his lips, signaling her to stay quiet.
Excited, Levi pulled out his phone and secretly took a picture of Johnny and his blind date. He then sent it to a group chat with Franklin, Harry, and Julia.
“Guess what’s happening?”
“Hint: This is a couple’s restaurant.”
Harry, who had just finished work and was about to head out for a meal, checked the new message and immediately recognized what was happening.
He glanced at the photo but didn’t reply.
Franklin and Julia also didn’t respond.
Frustrated at the lack of attention, Levi eagerly typed, “??? Where are you guys? It’s mealtime, why is no one replying?”
Harry still didn’t respond.
At this point, Julia finally sent a message.
“I saw it.”
Levi perked up. “Smart as always, you must know what’s going on, right?”
Julia, having also guessed from the picture, smiled and replied, “A blind date?”
“Yes!”
Julia smiled and didn’t respond further.
Although Julia hadn’t attended Old Madam Wilson’s birthday banquet a few days ago, she had heard that Mrs. Gray was very pleased with Maggie and said that if Maggie and Johnny were ready, she could arrange their wedding anytime.
Julia had felt it was too contrived at the time.

She suspected Mrs. Gray didn’t really understand Maggie’s situation. If she did, she wouldn’t have spoken so casually about the wedding.
In other words, Mrs. Gray likely had no idea about Maggie’s past, particularly about her previous marriage with Franklin. If she did, she would never approve of Maggie marrying into the Gray family.
With Franklin and Harry still not responding, Levi tagged them both.
When neither replied, Levi turned to Julia. “Is Franklin not with you?”
Julia answered, “No, he had to leave this morning for a business trip.”
Levi nodded, “Okay.”
As soon as he finished typing, Franklin finally appeared in the group chat.
“Read.”
Then, he followed up with another message.
“At a social event. You guys chat.”
After that, he didn’t appear again.
After Harry got in his car, he didn’t bother to keep up with the conversation and replied, “Got things to do, chat later.”
Then, he left the chat.
Levi stared at his phone, slightly frustrated.
Seeing that neither Franklin nor Harry cared about his gossip, Julia typed again, “I’m going to have dinner now, talk later.”

That afternoon, Maggie went to the R&D department for a meeting.
During the meeting, Glen was also present.
As Maggie accurately pointed out the problems and quickly proposed solutions, Glen sat there, quietly observing without speaking.

Once the meeting ended and Maggie was about to leave, she noticed Glen’s gaze. She stopped for a moment and asked, “Is it your first day here? Are you adapting well?”
Glen responded, “Yes, I’m adjusting well, thanks for asking.”
Maggie nodded and didn’t say more. She grabbed her laptop and left the meeting room.
The following days were a busy blur for Maggie as she handled both work and discussions about the
copyright agreement with the AI journal.
On Friday, after reviewing the work report from the R&D department, she asked her secretary to have
Glen come to her office.
Three minutes later, Glen knocked and entered.
Once seated, Maggie began, “The algorithm you wrote has improved the existing model’s efficiency and
performance to some extent, but it hasn’t quite met my expectations.”
She then started discussing where his algorithm fell short.
Glen listened attentively.
He had been at Cole for three or four days now, and had interacted with Maggie a few times. Compared
to the first impression he gave during the interview, his personality was quite different.
But Maggie, perhaps indifferent to these things, didn’t seem curious or surprised at his change.
In fact, on his first day, he’d given her a bouquet of yellow roses as an apology. But over the past few days, Maggie had never once brought it up, as if she hadn’t received them at all.
She showed no curiosity about why he had apologized either.
Glen already knew from the interview how capable she was professionally, but after seeing her handle work firsthand, he realized she was even more impressive than he had imagined.
Though he was known as a genius in the AI field, in front of Maggie, he felt like he hadn’t even begun to touch the surface. She was not only more talented than the big names he had met in A country, but also far more innovative.
The most important thing was…
Once she finished speaking, seeing that Glen hadn’t left, she looked up and asked, “Any other questions?”

Glen looked away, stood up, and said, “No.” –
Maggie nodded and didn’t say anything further.
Glen left to get back to work.
Not long after, his phone rang.
He picked up, and the voice on the other end immediately asked, “How far have you gotten with that Maggie? Who do you think she’ll choose–me or Johnny?”
“Me or Johnny?”
In Maggie’s eyes, he and the other researchers in the department were probably all the same.
“Nothing’s happened,” Glen replied as he continued analyzing data. “I’m hanging up now.”
Just as he ended the call, Julia’s call came through.
He glanced at it but didn’t answer, choosing instead to continue working.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
“Mom!”
After leaving kindergarten, Tommy happily rushed into her mother’s arms, overjoyed to be picked up from school.
Tommy’s mom hugged her tightly and then noticed Isabella beside her. She greeted, “Isabella.”
Isabella gave a slight nod, “Aunt.”
Tommy looked around, asking, “Isabella, isn’t your driver here yet?”
Isabella glanced around but didn’t see her driver. She noticed that most other kids were being picked up by their moms.
Usually, her driver was the one to pick her up, and she wasn’t really concerned about it before.
But now, seeing her driver wasn’t around, and noticing that she didn’t seem happy, Tiantian’s mom asked, “Is something wrong? Why do you look so down?”
Isabella didn’t speak.

Just then, her driver arrived.
She waved at Tommy and her mom before getting into the car.
Once inside, watching Tommy happily skipping up to the car, Isabella withdrew her gaze. She took out
her phone and found Maggie’s contact, but she didn’t make the call.
Instead, a few seconds later, she dialed Franklin’s number.
