I glanced at Alex, who was still staring at the screen, seemingly lost in thought. Without hesitation, I decided to ask, “Do you have a friend named Ashton, Mr. Hall?”
“Hmm? What did you say?” Alex turned to look at me, his expression blank.
It wasn’t clear if he truly hadn’t heard me or was pretending not to understand.
“Do you have a friend named Ashton?” I repeated.
“Ashton?” Alex echoed, shaking his head. “No, who is that?” He smiled, maintaining eye contact, but I could sense the subtle evasion in his gaze.
I forced a polite smile. “The tough man you mentioned earlier, Mr. Hall.”
Alex chuckled awkwardly. “Oh, really? Does such a person exist? What’s your relationship with this tough man? Is it good?”
Noticing the curiosity behind his seemingly casual words, I added with a faint smile, “You seem quite interested in this tough friend of mine. Would you like me to introduce you to him sometime?”
“Sure, but… is it convenient?” Alex hesitated, his reluctance unmistakable.
“Is it not convenient?” I asked deliberately, keeping my gaze steady on him.
Alex smiled politely, but there was a flicker of unease in his expression. “It’s just that I’m concerned about… misunderstandings. Your friend from yesterday seemed to have an issue with me and pretended to be your boyfriend.”
-Instead of addressing his concern, I changed the topic. “By the way, Mr. Hall, do you have a friend with
the last name Drake? What’s his name?”
Alex’s composure faltered slightly. “I… do…” His words stumbled out awkwardly. “I call him Stephen.” “Oh? How old is he?” I continued, my tone casual but probing.
Alex’s expression grew tighter. “He’s not really old, but not young either. He’s in his 30s. Still, he doesn’t have a girlfriend.”
I nodded lightly, pretending to take the information in stride. “Is it possible for me to meet him sometime?”
“Hmm?” Alex’s eyes widened, a mix of surprise and unease flashing across his face.
I smiled, leaning in just slightly. “Mr. Hall, you mentioned he doesn’t have a girlfriend, and I happen to be single myself…”
Alex’s mouth twitched, and he let out an awkward chuckle. “Ms. Hart, I didn’t expect you to be so… direct. You’re really playing matchmaker for yourself? That’s… surprising.”
He gave me a thumbs–up, trying to cover his obvious discomfort.
“There aren’t many good men in this world,” I said lightly, teasing him. “If there’s a chance to meet someone suitable, why shouldn’t I give it a try? Isn’t it said that happiness is something you have to fight for?”
Alex shifted uncomfortably but managed to agree. “Yes, yes. Ms. Hart, you’re definitely… exceptional.”

“So, Mr. Hall,” I pressed on, “are you willing to help me set up a meeting with your friend Stephen?”
Alex forced a stiff smile. “Sure, sure. But I’ll need to check with Stephen first because… well, he, recently developed a crush on someone, and it seems like there’s some progress between them.”
“I see,” I replied, feigning disappointment. “How unfortunate.”
“Yeah,” Alex said, latching onto the excuse. “So, it’s unlikely he’ll be interested in meeting you.”
But his attempt to deter me only deepened my curiosity about his friend with the last name Drake. I wasn’t about to give up. “As long as he isn’t married, I’ll still give it a try. Who knows? He might find me more suitable after he meets me.”
Alex looked completely at a loss for words, utterly baffled by my persistence.
“Mr. Hall,” I said with a smile, “do me a favor and help arrange this. You know, they say playing matchmaker can add ten years to your life and bring you more blessings and fortune.”
Before he could respond, I added cheerfully, “I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
