Chapter 145 Coincidence
A bright, delicate face flashed through Keon’s mind for a split second.
He quickly shook his head, feeling like he was overthinking things.

The heavy double doors swung open, and in walked Veronica, impeccably dressed. Her eyes scanned the room before she smiled and made a beeline for Emyr.
“What a coincidence.”
She approached him shyly, leaning forward ever so slightly, the neckline of her dress revealing a generous glimpse of her figure.
“My parents and I are having dinner downstairs. When the manager mentioned you were here, I thought I’d stop by and say hello.”
Her eyes burned with admiration as she gazed at Emyr’s handsome profile. “I hope I’m not interrupting?”
The Crosses had investments in this hotel, and under her parents‘ persuasion, Veronica had previously managed to obtain an SVIP membership card from Emyr–an unprecedented privilege. Naturally, the hotel manager assumed Veronica held a special place in Emyr’s life and treated her with utmost care.
Noticing this, Keon furrowed his brows slightly, while Shawn and Sinnova were immediately intrigued.
“Hey, isn’t she the one Keon ran into at the welcome banquet last time?”
“Could it be that Mr. Emyr, known for being so selective, has finally taken a liking to someone–and it’s her?”
Hearing their teasing, Veronica’s face lit up with even more delight, looking radiant and charming.
However, Emyr paid them no mind, nor did he acknowledge Veronica. Instead, his voice remained cold and indifferent. “As the host, it’s impolite to leave your guests unattended.”
Veronica’s smile froze, her face turning pale.
She stood awkwardly for a moment, unsure of how to respond.
Shawn found it amusing. “You’re not very romantic, huh? She came all this way just to see you.”
Sinnova, offering his wisdom, added, “Exactly. This is the part where you’re supposed to say, ‘I didn’t realize I meant so much to you.”
Emyr’s chiseled features tightened, his expression growing even colder.
His icy gaze swept over his two friends who were enjoying his discomfort before finally settling on Veronica. His patience was wearing dangerously thin.
Encouraged by Shawn and Sinnova’s remarks, Veronica recalled the tricks Leah had taught her and took a deep breath, letting out a soft hum from her nose.
Lowering her gaze slightly, she tried to suppress the disappointment in her voice. “I realize I was being inconsiderate earlier, but … may I ask you for a favor?”

Veronica lowered her head even further. “Well, my parents are hosting dinner tonight to discuss a business deal. They’ve been trying for a while now, but the other party won’t budge until the very last moment. When they heard you were here, they asked me to see if…
Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, as if overwhelmed with shame but left with no other choice.
“I was wondering if you could come down to the private room with me–just make an appearance. With you there, they’ll agree to the deal.”
After finishing, Veronica watched Emyr’s expression carefully. His face remained unreadable.
Fearing that she had angered him, she quickly panicked and tried to backtrack, her tone hurried. “I’m sorry, Mr. Emyr, I shouldn’t have asked such an unreasonable favor. Just pretend I never said anything!”
The request was indeed laughable to Emyr.
Veronica’s family was only a branch of the Jameses, and even Keon wouldn’t dare to openly take advantage of Emyr like this.
But Emyr remained expressionless.
After their initial encounter, Emyr had instructed Tad to investigate Veronica’s position within the James family.
Her parents favored sons over daughters, leaving Veronica with little presence at home–she was treated no better than a servant, constantly ordered around and disregarded. Only because of her association with Emyr had her status within the family improved, allowing her to enjoy a slightly better life.
She had even sent him several voice messages to thank him and invite him to dinner.
Listening to her pleading now, Emyr found her unexpected visit bothersome but decided to suppress his irritation.
After all, he had once promised to help her, even if she no longer remembered it and had become so timid and helpless.
“Take me there.”
Veronica was stunned, thinking she had misheard.
“Mr. Emyr, are you saying…”
“He said he’d help you. How did you even muster the courage to ask him?” Shawn chuckled.
Sinnova stroked his chin, eyeing Emyr with an increasingly intrigued look. “Who would’ve thought? The once untouchable Mr. Emyr, who kept women at a distance, is now breaking all his rules–and even agreeing to something like this.”
