Chapter 127 Losing Bid

The final bidder was none other than the rival who had taken the bidding documents from them in her previous life.
Charmaine closed her eyes, focusing deeply as she listened to the host read through the bidding details.
The documents matched. The proposals aligned, but when the price was announced…
Her eyes flew open.
The rival’s bid was a full ten million less than the Reads!
Her pupils trembled slightly.
How could this be? In her previous life, the Reads had lost because their price had been lower than the rival’s.
Her gaze instinctively shifted to Bennett.
Sitting beside him was the manager overseeing their bidding project.
When the bids concluded, Bennett threw an arm around the manager and laughed boisterously as though they already knew the results would be in their favor.
As the evaluation phase began, the room grew noticeably more animated.
Bennett, brimming with confidence, sauntered over to Dominic with exaggerated swagger. “Dominic, you’ve been so busy lately. Your belly’s shrunk a lot! Guess it’s time to buy new pants, huh?“.
Before Dominic could reply, Bennett cackled loudly. “Oh, silly me! If you don’t win the project, how would you even have the heart to shop for new clothes? Hahaha!”
Dominic let out a cold snort, choosing to ignore the provocation entirely.
Charmaine admired Dominic’s composure in the face of such blatant mockery.
But beside her, Celeste was livid.
Clenching her fists tightly, she growled, “I’m going to kill that old fox!”
Charmaine quickly stopped her, her voice calm and steady. “Let’s wait for the bidding results first.”
Bennett, not content with showing off in front of Dominic, turned his attention to Jonah.
“Jonah, why don’t you listen to your father’s advice and weather the storm? Why not cooperate and win together?” he said, smiling smugly.
This project is…
Before he could finish, the host’s excited voice echoed across the venue. “The bidding results are out! I’m pleased to announce that the winner of the South City development bid is Dominic Wheeler!”
The room erupted into applause. Bennett froze as if struck by lightning. Sophie and his department

“How could it be Dominic?” Bennett stammered. “This bid was ours! How could it possibly be Dominic?”
Meanwhile, the audience congratulated Dominic, who looked just as shocked.
“Congratulations, Mr. Wheeler!”
“Well done on securing the South City development project. Let’s collaborate and make money together!”
Dominic, finally snapping out of his daze, grinned so widely that his eyes almost disappeared. His voice boomed with excitement. “Thank you all! Thank you! Let’s work closely and share opportunities in the future, haha!”
Jonah stood up slowly, buttoned his suit jacket, and cast a cold glance at Bennett, who remained frozen.
“Mr. Read, it’s best to show restraint when the outcome is uncertain,” he said flatly before heading to Dominic to offer his congratulations.
Sophie, unable to hold back, covered her mouth and began sobbing uncontrollably. Then, she started shaking her petrified husband.
“Honey, say something! What’s going on?” Sophie cried.
Beside them, the manager’s face was grim. If Bennett had not been so arrogant, pouring everything he had into this bid, convinced it was a guaranteed win, they would not have rejected the offers of collaboration that could have safeguarded their position.
But now…
He gritted his teeth. How could I have trusted this fool to lead us to victory?
“It’s impossible!” Bennett muttered, shaking his head. “We had an agreement last night. It’s impossible….
Suddenly, his face twisted as a realization struck him. In a frenzy, he rushed toward the front desk, his voice rising in desperation. “Mr. Riverson! Mr. Riverson, you said…
Before Bennett could continue, Roger’s assistant cut him off sharply. “What are you doing? This isn’t the place for your nonsense!”
The scolding jolted Bennett back to reality. He realized he had almost said something he should not.
Still, his fury burned bright, and his bloodshot eyes darted toward Roger with pure hatred.
His anger boiled over.
How could this happen?
He had taken out millions in loans from loan sharks, fully confident he would secure the project. Now, without the bid, the crushing interest would spiral out of control, leaving him with nothing but ruin for all his efforts.
Roger, sensing the tension, gestured for his colleagues to leave the room. Once they were gone, he approached Bennett and said, “Losing a bid is tough–I get that, but you’ve got to keep looking forward.”
