“Of course, no problem,” Charmaine replied, glancing at the time. “Just give me the address, and I’ll head over right now.”
“Okay! Thank you so much, Ms. Nelson!” the maid said, her voice filled with gratitude.
Thirty minutes later, Charmaine arrived in the heart of the old district.
In the past two decades, Eragos had grown immensely, doubling its size. The new city was located to the east, while the older district had become a tangled maze of chaos.
The streets were lined with small street vendors, and the Crosses‘ car was too eye–catching. Charmaine had the driver park at a nearby mall on the outskirts and decided to continue her journey on foot through the narrow lanes of the old district.
Following the GPS directions, Charmaine meandered through tight, winding streets. Then, an instinct told her to put her phone away and keep walking.
After a few more twists and turns, she found herself at a dead–end alley.
As she slowly turned around, she realized three large men had blocked the only way out.
They moved in closer, grinning like predators. “Where are you off to, little lady? Come play with us.”
Meanwhile, sleek, flashy Maybach cruised through the hustle and bustle of the old district. The man sitting in the back seat ordered his driver, his voice calm but authoritative, “Stop the car.”
The car stopped abruptly. The driver was puzzled as he noticed a slim woman slip into an alley, followed by the three burly men.
“Sir, should I intervene?” the driver asked.
The man in the back seat merely chuckled, resting his arm against the window, his gaze fixed on the alley entrance. “No need.”
The driver, confused, mumbled to himself, “Huh?”
If we’re not helping, why are we stopping?
Back in the alley, the three men had almost closed in on Charmaine.
Charmaine eyed them carefully, her expression unreadable, yet her thoughts sharp.
The men weren’t your average thugs; they carried themselves like trained professionals.
She frowned slightly as the realization hit her. “You three are skilled, aren’t you? I don’t think I’m up for your game.”
The men exchanged wary glances but continued moving closer, their confidence unshaken.
“Little lady, thinking too much can get you into trouble … ” one of them warned, just before all three lunged
at her.
Charmaine’s face went cold as she spun swiftly, locking onto the man to her left who had a slight limp. She

“We’re sorry! Please, don’t hurt us, miss!” they begged, collapsing to the ground, unable to get back up.
The men hadn’t anticipated such a quick and agile response from Charmaine, especially one so unexpected from someone so slender. In a matter of moments, they found their limbs rendered useless, as though their strength had been drained.
As Charmaine approached, they looked up at her with wide, terrified eyes as though they were seeing a ghost.
She gave a sharp kick to the man who had spoken. “Who are you calling ‘miss?“”
“We’re sorry, Boss! We didn’t know how capable you were!” the man cried. “Please, spare us!”
The three men, each twice Charmaine’s size, now groveled on the ground, begging for mercy.
Charmaine paused, withdrawing her foot, but her gaze was cold. “Who sent you?”
“N–no one, really! We were just passing by … ” one of the men stammered.
“Yeah, we work for Reggie, handling collections. We had a drink after our rounds and saw you … ” another man added, his voice shaky.
Charmaine’s lips curled into a cold smile as she inserted a few more needles, making sure their limbs would remain useless for a year. She gave them one last look before walking away, her movements calm and purposeful.
When Charmaine emerged from the alley, she immediately noticed the Maybach parked nearby.
At the same moment, the window rolled down, and a familiar face appeared.
Charmaine approached, her brow furrowed. “Aren’t you supposed to be having dinner tonight?”
Keon raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “I haven’t seen you for so long, and you already know my dinner plans?”
As he spoke, he noticed the slight redness around Charmaine’s knuckles. “You’re hurt.”
Charmaine glanced at her hand nonchalantly. “Oh, these guys were tough, and my skin is too soft. Just give it ten more minutes, and it’ll-”
