It seemed that this thing truly worked. Without it earlier, my luck had been dreadful, but now that I had it on, good news came right away!
The lively commotion around Alessa sharply contrasted the icy atmosphere surrounding Emyr, which kept everyone at a distance.
Emyr’s slender fingers tapped rhythmically on the armrest of his wheelchair.
He turned his head and caught sight of Charmaine with her mouth stuffed full while squinting her eyes. He wondered if she was simply enjoying the food or pleased with someone else’s misfortune.
“That man was your doing,” Emyr remarked.
Charmaine wiggled her head, not denying it. “He’s part of the family. He wanted to see his great–aunt, so I just helped him buy a train ticket.”
Emyr let out a faint snort. “One train ticket for such a spectacle? Not a bad trade.”
“Hehe, even you think it was.
“No. It hurt my eyes.”
Why doesn’t this Satan like to gossip?
Without it, life lost so much joy!
huh?”
Charmaine puffed her cheeks indignantly and resumed munching on her food like an annoyed squirrel. Emyr’s lips curved slightly, but his gaze drifted elsewhere.
Suddenly, his entire body stiffened.
“Mr. Emyr, are you sure you don’t want a bite? Uh, what are you looking at?”
Noticing Emyr’s sudden tension, Charmaine followed his gaze. She saw nothing but the empty spot where he was staring.
“Nothing.”
Emyr didn’t say another word after that.
“Weird.”
Charmaine shrugged and continued her feast.
Back at the Eastlake villa, Emyr summoned Tad to the study.
“Look into Leah,” Emyr ordered.
Tad blinked in confusion. “Mr. Emyr, what exactly should I investigate?”
Emyr’s voice was hoarse and low. “She was wearing that necklace.”

“Necklace?” Tad paused, and realization dawned. His eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you talking about the bullet pendant necklace?”
“Yes.”
“But… didn’t you say that ‘he‘ spent two years in South Aspus? Ms. Nelson has been in Eragos all this time and everyone knows that. How could…”
Emyr’s eyes darkened. “Then find out where she got that necklace.”
Leaving the Quinns‘ banquet, Bennett stormed into the sanatorium, seething with rage.
Visiting hours were over, but he ignored the rules and barged in.
However, before he could reach Jane’s room, two towering bodyguards blocked his path.
Bennett nearly exploded. “Who the hell are you? I never hired any bodyguards!”
The two men, both nearly six and a half feet tall, loomed over Bennett, whose frail frame paled in comparison.
“We were hired by Ms. Charmaine Nelson.”
It’s Charmaine, again! She’s always in the way!
“Get lost! My mom doesn’t need any d*mn bodyguards!”
“Apologies, Mr. Read. We only take orders from Ms. Charmaine, and you don’t have the authority to dismiss
us.”
“Fine, you want to stay? I’ll call the cops and report you for harassing my mom-”
“Mr. Read,” one of the bodyguards interrupted, “Ms. Charmaine left a recording for you. She asked us to deliver it.”
Bennett sneered as if hearing a joke. “Charmaine? She thinks I’ll listen to her nonsense?”
“Ms. Charmaine said if you refuse to listen, we’re authorized to play it publicly. The one embarrassed would be you, Mr. Read.”
Bennett was so furious he could barely see straight.
Snatching the recording device, he stormed to the hospital terrace and hit play.
A playful yet sharp voice echoed.
“Bennett, Weston is the first gift I’ve prepared for you. He’s been living off the pension card Grandma had left him before coming to Eragos, so he cares about her health more than anyone. I suggest you behave yourself and stop scheming against her. If anything happens to her, Weston will lose his mind, and no one will be able to stop him. Oh, and don’t even think about bribing him with money. You could beg on your knees, and he still wouldn’t believe you!–”
Charmaine’s smug laughter echoed at the end of the recording. Bennett’s face turned beet red. Furious, he smashed the recorder on the ground and stomped on it as if it were Charmaine’s face.

Glancing at the two hulking bodyguards standing vigil by the room, he pulled out his phone and dialed a
number.
The next morning, Leah’s swollen face looked even worse.
Coupled with the incident with Celeste, she didn’t go to school but stayed home to recuperate.
