Ashley, Tim, and George were in a group chat. What had just happened was so exciting that George couldn’t resist sharing it with them at the first opportunity.
Ashley and Tim weren’t particularly interested in how many suitors Tanya had and how crazy they were for her. But then George messaged, “Mr. Sterling’s son went here looking for Miss Mond today. At first we didn’t believe Miss Mond when she said she was close to Sam, but then we saw them together… I must say, Sam really loves Miss Mond!”

Ashley’s fingers froze on the keyboard.
It wasn’t the closeness between Sam and Tanya that bothered her. It was the thought of her aunt and grandmother hearing it. She knew it was inevitable, but still…
Noticing her change in expression, Tim guessed what she was worried about.
He scoffed.“It was just the influence Chase had that got the word out so quickly. It has nothing to do with Tanya. She’s Chase’s vassal at best. Except for her employees and admirers, who cares about her relationship with Chase’s son?”
Thinking of this, Tim chuckled.“The real bombshell is that you are Mr. Burke’s student, the mastermind behind CUAP and two of Eternal’s latest projects, and Sam’s birth mother. That’ll knock everyone’s jaw off! Who on earth cares if Tanya is a good stepmother?!”
Ashley felt surprisingly calm. But…
She said, “Mandy and Grandma probably knew Sam and Tanya were getting along.” They didn’t mention it only to spare her further pain.
Tim agreed. He gently patted Ashley’s shoulder. “It’s actually not that bad. And their silence shows that, compared to Sam, they care about you more. Your happiness is all that matters.”
Ashley smiled.“I know.”
This led her thoughts to her divorce. After signing the initial agreement, she’d assumed the divorce would be swift.

but now…
Ashley called her lawyer, Daniel. He checked in weekly on the divorce progress. When Ashley asked about it, he said, “I’m meeting with Chase’s lawyer tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted.”
“Okay,” Ashley said, then calmly added, “If it’s the same vague answer, tell them I’m fine with getting nothing. I don’t want anything he offered. Have them draft a new agreement and send it to me as soon as possible.”
