Logan’s cold, authoritative voice cut through the tension. “What happened?”

It was a stark contrast to the Logan I had spoken to earlier. He was no longer coy or dismissive; instead, he radiated an aura of control and dominance.
The head of security, visibly shaken, quickly stepped forward to report the situation. Logan listened intently, his expression darkening as the details unfolded.
When the report ended, Logan’s sharp gaze landed on Ashton. “So, is this all caused by your private matters, Mr. Drake?”
I could tell Logan was about to make things difficult for Ashton.
Ashton, calm as always, didn’t respond. Logan’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Well, Mr. Drake?”
“That’s right,” Ashton admitted without hesitation.
Logan crouched down, picked up some broken pieces from the ground, and examined them before tossing them aside. “How do you think this should be resolved, Mr. Drake?”
Ashton’s tone was steady. “How do you want to resolve this, Mr. Mercer?”
I stayed silent, knowing that whatever I said would only escalate the situation. Logan wasn’t doing this because of Ashton–he was doing this because of me. If I weren’t here, he likely wouldn’t have turned this minor incident into a significant issue. Knowing Logan’s personality, he’d have defended Ashton because the punks‘ actions were a direct provocation to Mercer Corporation.
Logan dusted his hands off and stood. “Since you have personal matters to deal with, I think it’s best you prioritize them. As for your work, let Mr. Miles take over.”
I froze. Logan was trying to fire Ashton.
While the lighting project was in its final stages and didn’t require much oversight, Ashton’s absence wouldn’t affect the outcome significantly. But Logan’s decision felt like an overkill–almost as if he had planned this confrontation to get rid of Ashton.
Suddenly, I couldn’t shake the suspicion that Logan might have orchestrated the earlier incident with the punks. It gave him the perfect excuse to remove Ashton.
“I’m not your employee, Mr. Mercer, so you have no right to determine my employment status,” Ashton stated firmly.
Logan’s laugh was cold and mocking. “Is that so? Let’s see if that’s true.” He pulled out his phone, clearly intending to call Ashton’s supervisor.
I stepped forward immediately. “Mr. Mercer, don’t you think we should investigate this matter further before making any decisions? Besides…” I paused briefly, carefully choosing my words. “While the project is almost complete and could proceed without Ashton, the final product might not meet expectations without his oversight. Don’t you agree?”
Just then, Miles arrived on the scene. He looked slightly flustered, likely having rushed over after hearing about the commotion. His eyes met mine, and I seized the chance.
“Mr. Miles, Mr. Logan intends to fire Mr. Drake and leave the post–adjustments under your supervision. Do you think you can manage that?” I asked deliberately, putting him on the spot.

Miles’s gaze lingered on me briefly before shifting to Logan. “The final installation still requires a thorough inspection. It’s best if Mr. Drake stays until the project’s completion.”
Logan’s expression darkened instantly. He glared at his brother, clearly frustrated that Miles wasn’t backing him up.
Even so, Logan was determined. His voice was sharp as he warned, “If you insist on keeping him, I’m afraid the amusement park will be shredded to pieces before your final inspection, Mr. Miles.”
