“Are you out of your mind?” Rex’s voice crackled through the phone, filled with panic. “All those people trying to see Robin or get him to work with them–they’re already at the hospital!”
“And Emyr’s there too! The guy from the Cross family, the one who’s limping, is already at the hospital!”
“Mr. Robin? Mr. Robin?”
Charmaine’s eyes flicked from her phone to Lorenzo’s face.
Lorenzo stood his ground, his tone unwavering. “As Leah’s primary doctor, given her test results, I can’t support any treatment plans except for the kidney transplant.”
Sophie quickly added, her concern obvious. “You heard what Dr. Zimmer said. Maybe we should skip the experimental treatments. Leah’s too fragile for that. She shouldn’t be used as some kind of experiment.”
Leah cut in, her voice calm but firm. “Mom, I can make my own decisions.”
Charmaine silenced the conversation by tucking her
away.
Her cold stare moved past Lorenzo to rest on Leah and the others, who were anxiously waiting for her decision.
With effort, Charmaine spoke. Her voice was rough, strained by the emotions she was holding back.
“If you’re not going to take the offer, it’s fine by me.”
Her words hung heavily in the air, a surprising turn of events.
No one expected this.
Just like that, she was walking away from it all?
Robin had always been a mystery.
His face was never seen, his gender ambiguous, and his presence seemed impossible to pin down.
Everyone had thought his involvement was a certainty, something that would not change.
And yet, Robin was letting it all go?
Leah clenched her jaw. She had planned to keep up the act of being the sacrificial one, to make Olympia and the others feel more guilty.
But with Robin pulling out, there was no longer room for her to play that role.
Leah wasn’t ready to back down. She pushed forward. “Mr. Robin, I can do this. I—”
Charmaine’s cold gaze cut through her. “My reputation is worth more than your life.”
Leah hesitated, nearly stumbling over her words.
Mr. Stuman, eager to avoid stepping on any toes, quickly jumped in.

Before he could finish, the elevator doors slid open with a soft ding. A group of men in black suits stepped out, and there, wheeled in by another, was Emyr. His presence was commanding, like a dark cloud looming over the room.
His eyes, sharp and predatory, scanned the gathered crowd.
“Where is Robin?” His voice was low but filled with authority, each word slicing through the tension like a knife.
The room fell silent. Everyone paused, caught off guard by his sudden arrival.
Leah couldn’t help but stare at Emyr, captivated by his intense, natural profile. She couldn’t look away.
Mr. Stuman’s smile grew even more ingratiating. “We weren’t expecting you, Mr. Emyr. Please forgive us for the lack of a welcome.”
He turned, beaming, eager to point out Robin’s location. “Mr. Robin was just here—”
But before he could finish, his smile faltered, then vanished entirely.
Robin, who had been right there only moments ago, had disappeared without a sound.
Emyr’s gaze locked onto Mr. Stuman, cold and unwavering. “Here?”
Mr. Stuman froze, his heart pounding. His smile had melted away, and panic began to rise in his chest. “Mr. Emyr, I swear Robin was just here. Everyone saw him—”
The doctors behind him nervously lowered their heads, avoiding Emyr’s eyes.
None of them dared to meet his gaze, fully aware of his reputation.
Emyr was notorious for his ruthlessness.
His fall from grace, losing the use of his legs, only made him more unpredictable, more terrifying.
The very thought of someone like Emyr searching for the elusive Robin in their hospital was enough to make everyone uneasy.
Leah, feigning indifference, spoke up.
“Before Mr. Emyr came out of the elevator, Mr. Robin was right here. Could it be that Mr. Robin left because he saw Mr. Emyr?”
Sophie, quick to pick up on the insinuation, chimed in. “Yeah, we were talking just a minute ago. Suddenly, he’s gone. Maybe Mr. Robin isn’t as brave as his reputation suggests. Maybe he ran off, afraid he couldn’t help Mr. Emyr.”
But as Sophie spoke, Emyr’s gaze cut through her like a blade. It was as if his eyes alone had seized her throat, choking off her words.
Despite the Reads‘ sudden wealth, Sophie still carried the remnants of her humble past. The nerves, the fear -those were things she couldn’t shake off, no matter how much her family’s fortune had grown.
