Ava released my hand and stood aside, waiting for me.

Lukas’s hand rested on my waist, almost half–embracing me in front of others, appearing quite intimate.
With a cold expression, he looked at Elena. “Can we leave now?”
Elena looked resentful and glanced at Elias.
What she didn’t respect was that Elias smiled and went over to chat with Ava. “Ava, I didn’t expect to see you again.”
Ava kept a cold face and acted as if she hadn’t noticed him.
Elias awkwardly touched his nose. “Don’t be so cold.”
Ava remained indifferent, treating him as if he were invisible.
Elena looked at Lukas pitifully, seeing him expressionless all the while.
In the end, she glared fiercely at me and angrily left.
I looked at Lukas and asked, “Mr. Strakovski, can you explain what’s going on?”
A trace of disgust flashed in Lukas’s eyes. “She knows I don’t have a companion but insisted on clinging to me. I can’t get angry at
someone else’s banquet.”
I distanced myself from Lukas and sighed helplessly. “Mr. Strakovski, there’s really no need for this. Elena already resents me, and
now she probably hates me to the core.”
Lukas felt the loss of contact in his hand, and somewhere deep inside, he felt a tinge of loss.
He raised an eyebrow at me. “Are you afraid?”
I pouted. “Not really afraid, I just think you don’t need to do this. As a matter of fact, you could find any excuse to turn her away.”

My eyes flickered. “Mr. Strakovski, are you unhappy with what I said?”
Lukas looked away, not looking at me, and his expression was indifferent. “You haven’t influenced my emotions that easily. It’s just that you don’t seem to understand one thing. When I need you as a shield, you should stand up for me without hesitation, rather than telling me to find an excuse or figure it out myself.”
