After recovering, Skylar’s first task was calculating every penny the Harrison family had
spent on her.
Sitting at her desk, credit card statements spread before her, she listed every expense from the past decade since moving into their home.
From tuition to living expenses, it totaled three million. Her father’s inheritance and the old
house were worth about two million. Adding her savings from part–time jobs over the years still left her short by one.
She’d need to find work to make up the difference before leaving.
Being a photography major, Skylar posted her portfolio online, offering professional
services.
Clients quickly rolled in – wedding shoots, graduation photos, the works.
She took every job, working dawn to dusk, her back aching from carrying equipment. But
she never complained.
Her mother had told her that Uncle Dan was already divorced before meeting her – it just
wasn’t public knowledge.
Their romance and marriage had been completely legitimate. Her mother was never “the
other woman.”
Neither of them had married into the Harrison fortune for money.
Though Skylar planned to leave, she couldn’t let Callias keep misunderstanding her mother.
That’s why every cent had to be repaid.
After nearly a week of exhausting shoots, she’d only earned eight hundred thousand.

Just as she was getting anxious about the slow progress, a big opportunity came in.
A client messaged her about shooting a birthday gala, offering two hundred thousand
dollars.
The high fee came with strings attached – the birthday girl was incredibly picky. Payment would only come with complete satisfaction.
Desperate for quick money, Skylar accepted immediately.
The day of the event, she arrived with her equipment to find familiar faces.
Her heart clenched seeing Victoria in a designer gown and tiara, with Callias beside her in a
black tuxedo.
Noticing her exhausted face, Callias frowned. “Why are you taking these gigs? Wasn’t your dream to be a high–end photographer? Aren’t we giving you enough allowance?”
“I’m an adult. I enjoy this work, so I took the job.”
Callias’s expression darkened at her response, but before he could speak, Victoria smoothed
things over.
“Skylar, he’s just worried about you. Don’t upset your brother like that.” Victoria linked
arms with her, leading her inside to “see her photography skills.”
Despite the polite words, Victoria worked Skylar relentlessly all night. Her camera nearly overheated from constant use.
After thousands of shots, Victoria still wasn’t satisfied, demanding aerial shots despite Skylar’s obvious fatigue.
Lugging her heavy equipment to the third floor, Skylar set up her tripod aimed at center
stage.
Through her lens, she watched Callias mount the stage amid cheers, placing the Harrison family’s heirloom necklace around Victoria’s neck.

Then, after three endless seconds, he pulled Victoria closer.
His hand tangled in her hair as he deepened what had started as a gentle kiss.
