Although my shopping experience had been irritating because of Selene, it didn’t affect my appetite. I ate a large plate of pasta before returning to the office. Just as I arrived, I received a call from Tessa.
Since I hadn’t been home for two days, it was normal for her to check in.
“Hey, Tessa.”
“Elaine, don’t keep staying at your friend’s place. Come home today. I made ravioli filled with fennel and ricotta.”
Her words made me want to laugh. It seemed Logan had already come up with an excuse for why I hadn’t been at home.
I had already decided to move back to my parents‘ house, so naturally, I had to return to the Mercer Estate to pack my things. I didn’t say much else. “Tessa, I’ll be home tonight.”
As I was leaving work, Maya approached me. “Elaine, are you okay?”
“What’s wrong?” I asked, puzzled.
“You know how everyone in the company loves gossiping. Don’t pay them any attention. I’ve seen how much Mr. Mercer spoils you.”
Maya’s words made me reach out for her phone.
Knowing what I wanted, she quickly hid it behind her back.
“Hand it over,” I demanded with a serious expression.
Under my pressure, Maya reluctantly handed me the phone. I opened their private gossip group. The content was similar to what I had overheard yesterday, but they had also dug up some past information about Selene and Logan.
It turned out that Selene, Logan, and Liam had been classmates in college. Some even speculated that they had been in a love triangle during their university days.

I hadn’t known any of this. While it was just gossip, there had to be some
truth behind it.
I returned Maya’s phone and drove off. Instead of heading to the Mercer Es tate, I went to see Caleb at his entertainment club.
Caleb was playing pool when I arrived. Seeing me, he invited me to join
him. “How about two rounds?” he asked.
I had been here before with Logan, who had taught me how to play pool.
Taking off my jacket, I picked up a cue stick and joined Caleb.
“Not bad. The student has learned from her master,” he said, praising
Logan.
While we played, I asked him, “Caleb, did you go to college with Logan?”
“Yeah, why do you ask? You’re not trying to dig up gossip about his college days, are you?” Caleb said shrewdly.
“Was there something between him and Selene during college?” I asked directly.
Caleb stopped mid–movement and looked at me.
I gave him a small smile. “I know you won’t lie to me.”
“No.” Caleb took a shot, sinking a ball into the pocket. “I promise.” After finishing his turn, he looked at me. “Why are you suddenly asking about
this?”
“I’m just curious,” I replied casually, turning my focus back to the balls in front of me.
“You’re getting married tomorrow. Once you’ve made the decision to be together, you should trust each other,” Caleb said before adding with a grin, “Early congratulations on your wedding.”
“We broke up,” I said flatly.
Caleb’s hand holding the cue stick jerked slightly.

After a moment, he nodded, “It’s better to break up now if things aren’t orjin than to marry and end up divorced”

Recalling his advice from before, I said, “Thanks, Cales*
“Hmm?”
I didn’t elaborate and left.
When I returned to the Mercer Estate, Logan car was already parked in the yard.
As I approached the house, I heard Ethan yelling “Elaine is your fiancée, Logan. And yet you were hugging another woman at work! I don’t care iff you’re shameless, but at least spare Elaine the embarrassment
It seemed the office gossip had already reached the Mercer family. Now! understood why they had called me back.
“Logan, if you don’t marry Elaine tomorrow, don’t step foot in this house again!” Ethan roared.
