Chapter 10
Ethan’s eyes were red as he looked at me.
“Holly, can we start over? Please.”
“No.”
I didn’t even hesitate.
“Holly, don’t say no,” he said urgently, reaching for my hand.
I pulled back before he could touch me.
“Let’s just part ways and leave it at that,” I said, standing up and walking out without looking back.
The next day, I ran into Ethan again on campus.
This time, he wasn’t alone.
Lila stood by his side, dressed in a flowing white dress that made her look even more stunning.
From the moment I entered the office, her gaze was fixed on me–both nervous and smug.
My professor introduced them.
“Holly, this is Ethan Brooks, one of the guest lecturers we’ve invited. And this is his assistant, Lila
Carter.”
He added with a smile, “I hear you two went to the same school back in the day.”
“Nice to meet you,” I said, extending my hand, pretending not to recognize Ethan.
Lila’s eyes locked onto our handshake, her glare sharp enough to pierce steel.
Her possessiveness was almost amusing.
When my professor suggested I show them around, I declined, citing the design competition as an
excuse.
Ethan said nothing, but his eyes followed me the entire time, making my skin crawl.

Thankfully, Nathan showed up just then.
I grabbed his hand, using him as my excuse to leave while shari’s gaze burned into my back
I’ve always loved spending time in the art studio,
It’s quiet, and the perfect place to find inspiration.
I was lost in thought, deciding on the colors for a design, when a knock interrupted me.
1 looked up to see Ethan standing in the doorway, tall and poised.
“What do you want?”
I asked, barely glancing up from my work, annoyed by the intrusion.
“I brought you these,” he said, stepping forward and revealing a large bouquet of roses from behind
his back.
The sunlight streaming through the window lit up the vibrant petals, making the bouquet even more dazzling.
Ethan held the flowers out to me, his eyes searching my face for any hint of delight.
But he was disappointed.
My expression remained indifferent, unmoved.
This was the first time Ethan had ever given me flowers.
If it had been in the past, I would’ve been overjoyed, grinning for days.
But now, I accepted the bouquet without a word, touched a petal briefly, and tossed the entire thing
into the trash in front of him.
He still didn’t understand me.
“I don’t like roses,” I said calmly.
“And I don’t like the person who gave them to me.”
