Chapter 7
I opened my eyes weakly and saw Ethan walking through the living room with a folder in hand. He glanced at me for half a second and kept walking, not saying a word.
No concern.
No acknowledgment. Nothing.
It was like I didn’t even exist.
And just like that, the tears I’d been holding back for so long came flooding out.
All the strength I’d forced myself to muster, all the hurt I’d swallowed–it all poured out of me.
For years, I’d believed my love and devotion would eventually melt his icy exterior.
But in the end, all I’d done was burn myself.
That night, I sent a message to my professor, letting him know I was ready to go abroad.
He helped finalize the paperwork. I’d be leaving in two days.
As I packed, I spotted the bracelet Ethan had given me.
The only gift he’d ever given me in our three years together.
I looked around the apartment.
Every corner was filled with reminders of me, of the effort I’d put into making it a home.
The chair Ethan used for work?
I’d spent weeks finding the perfect one, knowing he’d be sitting for hours at a time.
The fridge was stocked with ingredients I’d carefully chosen for his health.
Cooking for him had turned me into a decent chef, even though I’d barely known how to boil water
before we met.
The next day, I passed by the lab and saw Ethan through the window.
