Chapter 70
Chapter 70
She stumbled over her words, unable to speak unlike how chatty she’d been before. Seeing that everybody was on to her, she immediately booked it and rushed into the club for protection.
Quentin’s glare never left her up until she disappeared into the club. He clicked his tongue before turning to me.
The annoyance was still in his eyes as he spoke. “Why did you leave my beta?”
“Well-”
He cut me off. “You know your situation now. It doesn’t make sense for you to run around without
any protection.”
I leaned towards Haelor and wrapped my arms around his. Quentin’s eyes narrowed on our intertwined arms before he turned back to me.
“I’m Haelor’s partner to the club now. Which means I don’t have to answer to you.” I said, a sly smirk on my face as I watched Quentin seethe in annoyance.
My gaze flicked to the security guard. His brows were furrowed as he focused on his phone. Seconds later, his eyes raised up to meet mine. Then back to his phone again. Before finally locking on mine.
“You’re Princess Melanie.” He said with wide eyes.
“Melanie Luciano.” I said with a small smile. “Daughter of the Luciano family.”
It was no secret that my family was the richest in the entire pack. No doubt, this new information must have left him completely stunned.
The look of surprise never left his face as he continued to stare. Then ever so slightly, he turned to regard Haelor.
“You would look so good together with him.” His voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke.
I wouldn’t have heard that if it weren’t for my abilities finally being back. There was no way I could comment about it though. Quentin and Haelor would find out and I wasn’t ready for them to know just yet.
So I blinked innocently, pretending I hadn’t heard a single word that had left his mouth.

Quentin had a look of irritation on his face as he glared down the Gamma wolf. The security guard had a sheepish look on his face as his gaze dropped down to his feet.
Haelor on the other hand looked pretty excited about the whole thing. But for some reason, he didn’t comment on it.
“Shall we?” Haelor asked, holding out a hand to me.
I smiled, letting him take my hand in his. “We shall.”
With that, we walked into the venue, hand in hand and never quite letting go of the other. The whole place looked as glamorous as word of it said.
Bright chandeliers trailed down the ceiling, giving the main room a lovely glow. The room was filled with a bunch of other people, well dressed for the occasion.
I let my eyes wander past them, wondering if I’d spot anybody I’d know. All their attention turned to
us as we walked towards the center of the room.

Haelor kept a straight face while he walked beside me. I noted the dust of pink on his cheeks. On any normal day, he was the feared alpha, known for his dominance and prowess out in the field.
But now, as he held onto my hand in front of so many people, I could feel the shyness in the way he
acted.
I noticed Quentin’s eyes were on us, well–to be precise–on me. It was hard to decipher the look in
his eyes.
That was how it normally was, with him being unreadable more than half the time. I turned away from him and stuck close to Haelor.
The general must have noticed my gaze and trailed it to Quentin. His grip on my hand became more protective as he led me away.
“Why did you come here?” I asked, trying to bring up a topic and ease the tension just a little.
Haelor was quite for a while, probably contemplating what to say. He couldn’t even try to lie to me as I would know immediately.
He must have understood that as let out a breath. “I had a little help.”
“Who?” I asked curiously.
“Jane,” he answered. “She encouraged me to come. Told me I’d see you here.”

And you came here just because you knew I’d be here?” I couldn’t hide the amusement in my tone,
He nodded. “Pretty much.”
“That traitor.” I mumbled under my breath, thinking about how Jane had pretty much ratted me out
to him.
Haelor had a cautious look in his eyes as he continued to watch me. I raised an eyebrow at his behaviour, wondering what could possibly be going through his head.
“You’re not mad, are you?” He asked carefully.
“Depends.” I folded my arms. “You’ve been following me around lately, always knowing where I am at so and so exact time. What are you up to?”
His eyes flicked to my long blonde hair and then back to my face. There was a soft look in his eyes as he stared at me for a while.
