Chapter 17: Leonardo’s POV
Chapter 17: Leonardo’s POV
I saw how upset Charlotte was about her ring being gone and couldn’t believe it when Claire defended
Matthew’s actions. The man had come with the intention of blackmailing me for money to pay for his very expensive habit. He even took pride in calling Claire to exploit funds out of me. Although that backfired massively, I was thrilled he had called Claire. That meant she was going to appear and I missed her horribly.
I had been given the perfect opportunity to give her the gift she should’ve gotten on our five year anniversary just a few days ago. I was so excited to hand her the envelope. I knew I was doing the right thing and I wanted to show her how determined and dedicated I was to having my wife back.
But Matthew’s actions ruined that moment for us.
Having heard what he had done and us standing at opposing sides on what transpired was not what I wanted. It wouldn’t help me get Claire back.
But Charlotte would. She proposed that Claire move back in and work as a caregiver to her instead of her calling the police and having Matthew arrested for theft. I’d like to think Charlotte did that in hopes to help me. I jumped in agreement at the opportunity and idea of Claire being back home but it backfired when I walked upstairs to our bedroom.

I saw Clare packing her things after she agreed to Charlotte’s terms. I asked her why she was moving out when she should be moving in and she told me she would not be sharing our bedroom anymore.
The words alone stung me.
I had expected her to take her place by my side while we lived together in our home. But she had made it clear she was going to move into another room and I couldn’t stop her. Even though I wanted so desperately to stop her from leaving through that door.
It didn’t take a genius to know how wrong I had
been.
I expected her to be in our bed, in our bedroom and with me – under the pretenses that she wouldn’t leave me again. But she agreed to come back, in order to save Matthew. Claire didn’t want to be here. It was evident when she packed her things and slowly started moving them to one of the guest rooms. It was even more evident when she had finished packing and refused to look me in the eyes as she told me she would be just down the hall. I knew when Claire was hurting and it hurt me to know that my imposition on her talk with Charlotte caused her to feel this way. I had only thought of my own feelings in that moment and yet again, I was left with the strong feeling that I had done the wrong thing. I wish it didn’t have to be so
complicated.
