Chapter 30 – Alice
“And now… The coin is here!” Millie screamed in excitement, not seeming to realize that everyone could see her remove the coin from inside her shirt sleeve, pretending that it had simply appeared behind Massimo’s car “Abracadabra!”
“Well, that was really… Impressive.” He smiled, even clapping his hands, while Millie bounced in place more than happy with her magic trick.
“You are such a cute magician!” Alice welcomed her into a hug, when her baby came running to her “So, did Sesame Street teach you any more amazing magic tricks?”
“No. But Big Bird said that tomorrow he will teach you how to make a toy chest out of a cardboard box.” Her daughter said, opening her mouth when Alice offered her a piece of apple “Tomorrow we’ll be able to watch it together, right? Massimo already met the doctor today.” She asked, pouting.
“Yes… Enough of so many medicines and appointments for me.” He grumbled grumpily “If what I have to do tomorrow is watch a puppet show, then so be it.”
“Yey!” Millie celebrated, jumping into Alice’s lap “Mommy, can I have a circus party this year? I want to be a magician!”
“I thought you wanted to be Bluey this year. That’s what you told me, right after you gave up being Cinderella.” Alice laughed, running her fingers through Millie’s hair to redo her ponytail “Why don’t we do it like that? You think about it a little more and then tell mommy so I can make the decorations, okay? Now, what do you think we take a break from playing, just to have a snack…?”
“Mrs. Bianchi.” Josiah’s voice made her turn around, finding Thea’s husband standing there; with a smile on his face “I’m sorry for interrupting, but it looks like you have a visitor.”
“Visitor?” Massimo immediately narrowed his eyes, suspicious “Who?”
“Well, I think it’s a friend of Alice’s. I heard Thea talking about that girl having called before. I think her name is Lucinda…”
“Is Aunt Lucy here?” Millie gasped, more excited than ever “Can we see her, mommy? Please, please?”
“Lucinda? Like, Lucy Peterson? Christopher Peterson’s wife?” Massimo grunted, more. dissatisfied than ever “What does she want here?”
“Lucy has been my best friend since we were kids. If I know her, she certainly didn’t bring her husband here.” Alice defended her friend, pulling her daughter closer “I guarantee Lucy only came here to check on me and Millie, to make sure we’re okay. It’s been almost a month and a half since the two of us have been here. So…” there was an acidic taste on her tongue from having to ask permission, but Alice still ended up saying “If you allow her in, I guarantee we won’t have any problems.”

“Please, Massimo, please!” Millie pleaded “Aunt Lucy is really nice. You will like her very much!”
“…” Massimo’s eyes were divided between the two, clearly not wanting to accept, until he ended up sighing, almost defeated “Okay. Let her in. But if I hear anything about that asshole husband of hers, no other Petersons will be allowed in this house again.” He crossed his arms, frowning, until Millie slipped out of her arms just so she could hug one of his legs.
“Thanks, Massimo.” They smiled at each other, making Alice’s heart ache a little “Do you. want to come play with Aunt Lucy too?”
‘No, Millie. I think I’ll just take a shower and get some rest for today.” Massimo sighed, casting one more glance in Alice’s direction “And I really hope I don’t have to worry.”
“Lucy is not like her husband. If you ever take the time to really get to know her, then maybe you can realize that for yourself.” She snorted, extending her hand to Millie “Come on, honey. Let’s go inside and get you some water and, Josiah, could you take Lucy inside, please? I think it would be more comfortable if we talked in the living room…

“Allie!” A scream interrupted her request, causing a smile to spread across her face at the same moment “Allie, I’m here!”
“Aunt Lucy!” Millie was the first to notice where Lucy was coming from, running to wrap her in a hug, at the same time as Alice ran to her best friend.
“oh, my
little baby, I missed you so much.” Lucy lifted Millicent into her arms, her voice already cracking “Are you okay? Look at you… Have you grown a little more in the time we’ve seen each other?”
“She’s always growing, every time I blink.” It was Alice who responded, wrapping her arms around her friend, feeling welcomed for the first time in a long time “It’s so good to see you, Lucy…”
“I missed you so much, Allie.” Lucy turned her face, kissing her cheek “Are you two okay? What has it been like living…?” that sentence died the moment Lucy noticed Massimo standing there, with his expression not friendly at all “Oh… Uh… It’s a pleasure to see you again, Mr. Bianchi… I’m happy to see you with health….
“If you guys have something to talk about, then go ahead.” He cut her off, turning his chair around so he could wheel toward the mansion’s entrance “But, don’t think that means I’ll accept any of your husband’s ridiculous financial proposals.”
