Chapter 16 – Alice

“Are they going to be mean to you?” Millicent hugged her neck even more firmly, scared.
“Is that what you made Millie think about us?” Amber hid her face In her hands, sobbing as if she had just been called a murderer or something similar “I love my niece so much… I’ve missed her so much at the mansion… I thought we could work this all out when you calmn down, but you’re still trying to punish us by taking Millicent totally away…”
“Don’t cry, sweetie…” Casey hugged his new girlfriend even closer, even though his eyes were on Alice “Please, Alice, fix this. You know we never intended to hurt you or take you out of our lives! Explain to Millie that we are not the villains, so that she doesn’t think so badly of her own aunt…”
“Don’t you dare involve my daughter in this!” Alice cut him off, irate “It doesn’t matter what she thinks about you two, because neither you nor Amber have ever cared about her or really wanted to be part of her life. Therefore, I do not allow you to talk to her or try to involve her in this madness that you are the only ones creating” She placed Millie on the floor, kissing her cheek “Please, dear, go. I’ll come to you in just a moment, I promise.”
Even though she was still hesitant and scared, Millie seemed to realize the seriousness of the situation and ran away from them without looking back, towards the mansion door. Alice’s relief, however, lasted only for an instant.
“What are you doing, Alice?!” Casey asked, horrified “You’re not really thinking about using a child to get back at us, are you? You’re not like that…”
“I’m not using my daughter for any revenge, especially since you two won’t be checking in around her again. And don’t you even dare pretend that you really care about me or her.” She growled “Why did you come here, anyway?”
“We came here because we really care about you, Alice!” Her ex–boyfriend stepped forward, now looking not only angry, but also having the audacity to look jealous “Amber didn’t want to come here, because seeing the Bianchi mansion is still difficult for her because of the end of her previous relationship. But, you know what, I convinced my girlfriend to do this, even though I knew she would be uncomfortable, just because of you, because I know we both still care about you, even though you’re the one who ran away from your mother’s house to marrying Amber’s ex–boyfriend just to try to get to us.” He accused, almost disgusted “I thought there was a plausible explanation for this and that your mother was misinterpreting your intentions, thinking that you just wanted money and some random father for Millicent. They always warned me that you did things like that, and you had even gotten pregnant at such a young age trying to get alimony from a rich man. No matter what they and other people told me, I always defended you, believing that you weren’t such a woman… But it seems like I was wrong, doesn’t it?”
For a moment, Alice can only freeze, wincing as if he had dug his nails into her and left behind only wounds in her chest. However, upon realizing that Amber had paused in her little act just to offer her a delighted smile that Casey certainly wasn’t seeing, Alice ignored the shrapnel of

having been hit in her weakest spot and just responded, with complete coldness.
“The only thing I was wrong about was you being a good man, Casey.” She returned his look of disappointment, now knowing that she would never be able to see that man as a friend again “I could ask you to ask your girlfriend and my mother what they did to force me to marry Massimo, but I can see that this would have no effect. You only care about yourself and what you want, even if it means not being painted as a traitor in front of a child’s eyes, event though you are exactly that.” Her words made him flinch “Now, go away, you two. The three of us have nothing left to talk about.
“So you’re just going to do it?” Casey insisted, increasingly upset “Are you just going to ignore our apologies and forget that your own sister exists, just because you can’t deal with the fact that we didn’t work out?” he took a step forward and grabbed Alice, the moment she tried to move away from them, fed up with their conversation “Wait, Alice! You can’t just arrange a custom wedding and pretend everything is fine!”
“Let go of me, Casey!” she growled, trying to escape his grip, but Casey was holding her tightly enough to almost hurt her.
“Do you think Amber and I don’t know that you did this just to get to us and make me jealous?” he shook her a little, like she was going crazy “What were you thinking, Alice? Submitting Millicent to live in the house of a rude and dying man just to try to heal her ego?! Have you even thought about the consequences of this…?”
His words were interrupted, however, when something cut through the air near Alice’s face, hitting Casey’s arm hard, like an arrow hitting a target, causing him to stagger away from her in pain at the same moment. And, as the thick tree branch that had hit him fell to the ground near Alice’s feet, a hoarse and furious voice caused them all to freeze.
“I may be on the verge of death, but I’m still capable of ripping your arms off for touching my wife, you piece of shit.”
