“Leo?” I asked, utterly confused. “What are you doing here?”
He flashed a small, knowing smile. “Why shouldn’t I be here? You’re on vacation, I’m on vacation.”
I wasn’t buying it. “Tell me the truth.”
Leo shrugged, his tone casual, almost too casual.

Leo didn’t answer. His silence was heavy, a tension hanging between us like the unsaid words we both knew.

“There’s no need for you to fall out with your father because of me,” I began, my voice quiet yet firm.

tongue.
“You should be able to tell who’s more important. Who carries more weight in this fight.”
Leo’s eyes flashed as he turned to me, his voice rising in protest, strong and unwavering.
“You are much more important than both Andrew and Silvermoon combined,” he declared, the intensity of his words catching me off guard.
“I’ve known for a long time that this day would come. Don’t think for a second that I regret it.”
I blinked in surprise, unsure how to respond.
Leo continued before I could interrupt, “It’s not a complete break just yet. I didn’t want you to worry or feel guilty. I can handle my father, and this fight… it’s not over yet. It’s still unclear who will win or lose.”
He said it to comfort me, to ease the gnawing guilt I felt about the situation.
But how could I not feel responsible? Still, I nodded, trying to let his words sink in, to believe that it wasn’t all on my shoulders.
We stayed silent for a while after that, the waves crashing onto the beach as we walked together, arm in arm.
We lingered there until the sun had set, and then headed back to the hotel.
When we returned, Leo followed me to my room.
He used the excuse of needing to change his medication, his injury still not fully healed.
