Chapter 10
In that moment, Grayson scrambled to adjust his bathrebe, hastily tying it shut,
He glanced around at the group of doctors from the medical station, his voice trembling.
“W what are you all doing here?”
I answered him, my tone calm and measured.
“I invited them.”
oge from the bed slowly, smoothing the wrinkles from my clothes as I did.
Realization dawned on his face.
He painted toward Emily in the crowd, his voice rising in fury.
“You! You betrayed me, didn’t you? Are you trying to lose your job?”
Emily flinched, clearly terrified.
But before Grayson could continue, the other doctors stepped forward, shielding her.
One of the senior doctors–a department head known for his no nonsense demeanor–spoke up, his voice steady and authoritative.
“Grayson Whitaker, your conduct is disgraceful. Threatening a nurse and attempting to assault a fellow doctor?”
*I don’t know where you think you get the power to pull this kind of stunt, but I’ll make sure the director hears about it.”
This senior doctor had been with the hospital for years, and even the director Treated him with respect.
Grayson was rendered speechless, his face pale.
But instead of defending himself, he looked at me, his eyes filled with pain.
“Whylan, do you really have to go this far?
That his gaze coldly.
“You brought this on yourself. Don’t blame me for the mess you made.”
The other doctors, having seen the whole spectacle, were furious.
They shouted and berated Grayson, their disgust clear.
The incident reached the hospital director by the following day, and as expected, Grayson was fired.
When the deadline for the divorce papers arrived, I was preparing to file them with the court when Grayson finally relented
Using someone else’s phone, he sent me a text asking to meet.
When we met, he handed over the signed papers.
For a moment. I was stunned.
But as I took the papers, he refused to let go, his grip tight.
Iyanked them free and glanced at the signatures.
Seeing both our names there, I couldn’t help but smile–a genuine one I hadn’t worn in weeks.
“Let’s go. We still need to finalize this at the registry.” I said.

Love, a Hollow Promise
Chapter 10
Grayson nodded silently, his steps heavy as he followed me
For the first time in a long while, we walked together in silence.
It was only a short distance, but Grayson dragged it out, claiming his foot hurt and asking me to slow down, then suddenly needing a bathroom break.
Maybe I was in a good mood from the divorce being nearly finalized, but I indulged his delays.
What should’ve taken ten minutes stretched into two hours.
When the staff at the registry asked for final confirmation, Grayson stared at me intently, as if hoping for something.
But I didn’t hesitate.
1 confirm,” I said firmly.
At my words, the light in his eyes dimmed completely.
When he received the finalized divorce certificate, he managed a weak, hollow smile.
“Do you need a ride back?” he asked, his voice shaky, almost pleading.
I glanced at his forced smile–it looked more like he was holding back tears.
To my surprise, a sense of relief washed over me.
“No thanks.” I said, my tone firm but calm. “You should focus on packing up and figuring out your ticket home.”
He had no reason to stay now, not after everything that happened.
Slipping the divorce certificate into my bag. I turned on my heel and walked away, not bothering to look back
Behind me, I could feel his eyes on me, his figure froen in place.
The defeat etched on his face was almost palpable, but it didn’t make me stop.
