My thoughts raced. Becoming Luna again had been part of my plan, yes, but I hadn’t expected him to bring it up so soon.
This changed everything. I needed to act quickly, but carefully.
“Silas,” I began cautiously, “this is a big decision. I need to talk to my brother, Branwen, before I can give you an answer.”
He nodded, his expression softening. “Of course. Take your time.”
Joanne and Joey’s laughter brought our attention back to them.
ey were on a small carousel now, their faces lit up with joy. It was a sight that warmed my heart, but I knew it was getting late.
“Girls!” I called out. “It’s time to go home.”
“But Mommy, we’re not done yet!” Joanne protested, her lower lip jutting out in a pout.
I smiled, shaking my head. “It’s late, sweetheart. We’ll come back another time, I promise.”
It was already dark by the time we left the amusement park. The air was cool, and the distant sound of crickets filled the night.
As we walked to the parking area, I glanced up at the sky and saw the full moon shining brightly above. My heart sank when I realized it was a full
moon night.
Almost immediately, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me.
My head throbbed, and the edges of my vision blurred slightly. The side effect of resurrecting Joanne and Joey–the weakness I experienced during full moons–was making itself known.
It wasn’t debilitating compared to the risks I had taken to bring my daughters back, but it was still enough to make me feel unsteady on my feet.
“Lorelei,” Silas’s voice was sharp with concern as he stepped closer to me. “Are you alright?”
I tried to steady myself, nodding weakly. “I just… I need to go home. I don’t feel well.”
Silas’s arm came around me, supporting me as I swayed slightly. “Hold on,” he said gently. “My beta is on the way to pick us up. He’ll be here any minute. Just hold on.”
Inodded, but the discomfort was growing unbearable. My legs felt heavy, and the throbbing in my head intensified.
“I… I don’t think I can wait,” I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
Just as I felt my knees begin to buckle, a car pulled up in front of us. Relief flooded me when I recognized the driver–Branwen.
The car door opened, and Branwen stepped out, his face set in a serious expression. Joanne and Joey lit up at the sight of him. “Uncle Branwen!” they called out excitedly.
Branwen’s eyes immediately zeroed in on me, his gaze full of worry.
“Joanne, Joey, get in the car,” he instructed. “Wait there for a moment.”
Without hesitation, the girls obeyed, climbing into the back seat. Then Branwen turned to me and Silas.
His eyes briefly flicked to where Silas was holding me, and his jaw tightened.
“Lorelei,” Branwen said, stepping closer. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”
I shook my head weakly, sweat beading on my forehead. “I’m… I’m just feeling weak. The full moon…”
Without waiting for further explanation, Branwen reached out and took me from Silas’s grasp.
He lifted me effortlessly, holding me securely in his arms.

Silas frowned, his voice tinged with irritation. “I can take care of her,” he said firmly.
Branwen’s gaze turned icy. “Lorelei is my sister,” he said sharply. “You don’t need to interfere in our family matters.”
“Branwen…” I began softly, trying to diffuse the tension.
Silas looked at me, clearly reluctant to back down. “Lorelei, are you okay with this?”
I managed a weak nod. “It’s fine, Silas,” I said. “We can stay in touch by phone.”
Silas hesitated for a moment, his lips pressing into a thin line. Finally, he stepped back, though I could see the frustration in his eyes. “Alright,” he said quietly.
Branwen didn’t spare him another glance as he carried me to the car and gently settled me into the front seat.
Once we were all inside, he started the engine and drove off.
In the dim light of the car, Branwen reached into the glove compartment and retrieved a small pill.
“Take this,” he said, handing it to me along with a bottle of water.
I swallowed the pill, and within minutes, the pounding in my head began to ease. Energy slowly returned to my body, though I still felt weak.
“Mommy, are you okay now?” Joanne’s small voice came from the back seat.
I turned to look at my daughters, forcing a reassuring smile. “I’m fine now, sweetheart,” I said. “Don’t worry.”
Joey leaned forward slightly, her little face full of concern. “You looked really sick, Mommy. Are you sure?”
“I promise, I’m feeling better already,” I said softly, reaching back to squeeze her hand.
